David is a seven-year-old boy from Kenya. He is the second born in a family of three children. He lives with his single mother, siblings, and grandparents, who are farmers. About 3 months ago, David noticed something different around the sensitive area of his body. His mother noticed that David's brother also had the same condition, which led the father to leave and abandon them. The two brothers were brought to the hospital and had an ultrasound scan. David was diagnosed with cryptorchidism, a condition in which one or both of the testicles remains undescended. If left untreated, David has an increased risk of developing hernias, testicular cancer, and fertility problems in the future. David will be receiving assistance from our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH). Fortunately, he is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on November 11th. AMH is requesting $483 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. David's mother says, “My wish is to see my boys treated and living a safe life like other children. Currently, I have no one to whom I can turn. I hope my children can be treated.”

Caleb is a seventh grader and the firstborn of two children. He and his eight-year-old sister live with their parents in a timber house on a small plot of land where they plant maize and beans for home use. Caleb's father is a Khat picker while his mother is a casual laborer and sells water to their community. His parents are not financially stable. Caleb has been diagnosed with a slow-growing intraoral cyst, which has caused him pain for the past 2 months. Without treatment, Caleb will experience increasing pain and continue bleeding. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is asking for your help in funding this surgery which costs $554. Caleb’s grandmother shared,’’ I am praying for my grandson to receive the required treatment.’’

“It is so sad to see my little son in pain. I’ll be very glad when I see him recover from treatment," says the father of Caleb, a five-day-old boy from Kenya. Caleb has spina bifida, also known as a neural tube defect, that caused an open cyst on his back. If untreated Caleb is likely to develop an infection, tethered cord, or kyphoscoliosis, which is an irregular curvature of the spine. Caleb’s parents have not been able to raise funds for Caleb’s surgery and are worried about their only child. With $805 our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, will be able to provide Caleb with spina bifida closure surgery. This will help prevent infection and any possibility of tethered cord or kyphoscoliosis development. Together, we can help Caleb grow up healthy!
