Christopher is the first born in his family of three children. He works in different homes taking care of cows or farming work. Although Christopher would have liked to go to college after completing secondary school, his family couldn't afford it. As a result, he earns limited income from casual labor jobs, which he shares with his mother who needs support. On Wednesday 5th October, as Christopher went to feed the cows, one cow pushed him to a corner and he was squeezed against the wall until he sustained fracture of the right clavicle. He is unable to attend to his duties that give him income and he is also experiencing pain. Christopher came to hospital accompanied by his employer. He is currently not in a position to fund his treatment and thus request for assistance. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On October 13th, Christopher will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. Christopher will be able to use his hand without feeling pain. He will also be able to resume his daily duties and continue to support his mother. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,049 to fund this procedure. Christopher says, “I have a lot of pain and am afraid because I rely on my hands to make a life. I request for help so that I can get my hand treated. I hope to return to my regular workload soon so that I may work and help my needy mother."

Sokhorn is a 37-year-old married father from Cambodia. His wife works as a farmer, growing rice and feeding animals. The couple has three children, including one son and two daughters who are all in school. Sokhorn worked for several years as a fisherman in Thailand, but is now back home. Since 2016, Sokhorn has experienced worsening pain in his right thigh. Pain medication has not helped. A biopsy revealed malignant cancer of the right thigh. When he visited a doctor in Thailand, they recommended amputation, but he refused and had a bone resection instead. In May 2022, he experienced swelling at the surgical site and the pain returned. He cannot work and feels depressed that he cannot support his family. Fortunately, our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), can help. On November 15th, Sokhorn will undergo an amputation and disarticulation of his right leg through the hip. Though it will be difficult, Sokhorn wants to explore all options to remove the tumor. Sokhorn shared, "I feel bad about this problem, but I am hopeful I can spend time with my family even though I will lose my right hip."

Sinath is an eight-year-old boy with one sister and two brothers. Sinath's parents are construction workers. In his free time, Sinath enjoys reading books and playing football with his neighbors. When he grows up, he wants to be a teacher. Sinath has pain and fullness in his left ear. His mother took him to treatment at a local clinic but his condition has not improved. He's been in so much pain that he cannot sleep at night, so his mother brought him to our medical partner, Children Surgical Centre (CSC), at the advice of a neighbor. On June 3rd, Sinath is scheduled to undergo surgery on his eardrum to relieve the pressure and pain he's been feeling. Sinath's mother was able to raise $60 toward his medical care and our medical partner is helping to raise $184. Once the procedure is done and Sinath's ear heals, he should be able to have a full recovery. Sinath's mother says, "I hope after surgery he can return to school and feel well."

Dorcas is a young girl from Tanzania. She is a fourth born child in a family of four children. She is still in kindergarten but hopefully will continue to class one once the COVID-19 crisis improves. Dorcas was born with a condition called Syndactyly where her fingers are fused together making it hard for her to utilize them easily. Dorcas was taken to the hospital by her mother to try to correct her fingers when she was three years old but unfortunately they were unable to correct her condition. Since her parents' passing, Dorcas has been staying with her aunt. They have not been able to seek treatment for her due to the cost of hospital fees. Dorcas' aunt has four children of her own and also looks after Dorcas full-time as her parent. Dorcas' aunt was advised by her pastor to bring her to our medical partner's clinic for treatment. Dorcas has been scheduled to have both of her little fingers released, but her aunt cannot afford the cost of treatment and they are now asking for help. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Dorcas receive treatment. On October 14th, surgeons at our medical partner's care center will perform a hand surgery so that she will be able to use her fingers with ease. Now, she needs help to fund this $639 procedure. Dorcas' aunt shared, "I believe this surgery will help her have more use of her hands and reduce the challenges she is going through due to her fingers being joined together."

Rosaline is a 23-year-old manual laborer from Kenya. When she was only 15 years old, young Rosaline was married and conceived her 1st born. A year later, she left her matrimonial home following constant quarrels and domestic violence from her then-husband. She went back to her ancestral home to live with her elderly mother. She currently has three children ages: 7, 4, and 2 years old. She was not able to complete a formal education. Rosaline lives in a one-room traditional house with her children. She depends on a small income she gets from fetching water for people in her village. On a good day, she makes $2, which she uses to feed her kids and take care of her basic needs. On days when there are no jobs, she relies on her siblings for food. Rosaline is the last born in a family of five. Her siblings do fishing in the nearby lake Baringo and don’t have a stable source of income either. In April 2020, Rosaline's traditional lessos and dress caught fire while cooking in her small makeshift kitchen. She shared that the space around the cooking area is small and can barely accommodate 2 people. As she was turning to pick up salt, her loose lessos and dress caught fire causing severe burns on more than 20% of her body. She now has difficulty sitting and is in pain. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Rosaline receive treatment. On September 22nd, surgeons will perform a debridement and skin graft procedure to this treatment will help her heal properly and she will no longer be in pain. Now, Rosaline needs help to fund this $1,185 procedure. Rosaline shared with us, “I have gone through a lot. Early marriage and break up, teen pregnancy, and now this accident. I have 3 children to feed and raise. I even had to discontinue my little baby from breastfeeding after I sustained the burns. I am in constant pain and at risk of getting infections. I am hopeful I will get to undergo this surgery so that I can take care of my young family.”

Kyampire is a farmer from Uganda. She is married and a mother to four children, two of whom are in university and two whom are still in secondary school. Kyampire was unable to continue school after the fourth grade due to lack of school fees. She earns a living from small scale farming, and at times does manual laboring in other people’s gardens to sustain a living. Her husband works as a builder on construction sites. Three years ago, Kyampire started experiencing lower abdominal pain and amenorrhea. She has been diagnosed with a premalignant cervical lesion. Kyampire needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $219 to fund Kyampire's surgery. On November 11th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner's care center. Once recovered, Kyampire will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Kyarimpa says “I am really grateful to have learned about this program. I hope that once I have been considered, I will receive my surgery and have new health as I continue with farming.”

Herbert is a peasant farmer from Uganda who has been having a persistent pain on his back and headache due to a visible frontal swell. He fears that without treatment, he will continue struggling with persistent pain. Previously, he tried seeking treatment but could not raise the funds needed for surgery. He came to our facility whereupon he received a lipoma diagnosis and had an excision recommended. However, he is still struggling with finances. Herbert is a farmer who together with his wife tends to their small farm to meet the family demands of their five children. His children are in school making it hard to consolidate finances for his surgery. Herbert traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On January 22nd, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Herbert needs help to raise $187 to fund this procedure. Herbert says, “I hope my surgery will go on well and I expect a better quality of health after I have fully recovered.”

Karen is a two-year-old child from Tanzania, who is the last born child in a family of four children. Karen’s father works at a mine while her mother works as a storekeeper at a local school. Through their income, they are able to support their family's basic needs. Karen was diagnosed with bilateral genu varus, meaning her legs curve outward. This condition is typically caused by an excessive accumulation of fluoride in the bones, which often stems from contaminated drinking water. As a result, she struggles to walk. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $838 to fund corrective surgery for Karen. The procedure is scheduled to take place on February 13th. Treatment will hopefully restore Karen's mobility, allow her to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease her risk of future complications. Karen’s father says, “Please help my daughter get this treatment so that she will be able to walk well without pain.”

Reaksmey is a first grader from Cambodia. She enjoys playing with her older sister and watching her mother cook. Three years ago, Reaksmey placed something inside her nose that is now stuck inside her right nostril. She experiences painful swelling and heavy mucous, making it difficult for her to breathe. Reaksmey traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On January 7th, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), will remove the mass. Now, Reaksmey needs help to raise $231 to fund this procedure. "I hope that I will no longer have to worry about the smell in my daughter's nose or the bleeding anymore." -Reaksmey's Mother

Birungi is a student from Uganda. She has had a swelling on her left neck since birth. She experiences discomfort because of this condition. Birungi traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On June 12, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Birungi needs help to raise $196 to fund this procedure. She says, "I like watching movies during my free time."

Dennis is a young student from Kenya. He is the youngest in his family. Dennis has clubfoot of both feet. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. Fortunately, Dennis traveled to visit our medical partner's care center, AIC Cure International Hospital. There, surgeons will perform clubfoot repair surgery on May 2. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,224 to fund Dennis's clubfoot repair. After treatment, he will be able to walk easily. “I am seeking for support. I want to see my son walking uprightly. God bless you," says his father.

Peace is a five-year-old girl from Kenya. She is very polite and friendly. Her mother is a laborer. Unfortunately, her father passed away five years ago after a long illness. Peace has a condition called severe bilateral genu valgus, also known as knock knees. This means her knees bend and touch each other when her legs are straightened. This condition hinders her ability to walk and causes her pain. Fortunately, she is scheduled to undergo corrective orthopedic surgery at our medical partner's care center on May 24. This surgery will eliminate her pain and allow her to walk. Her mother needs help raising $1,165. “I will be happy if you help my daughter undergo surgery and later on join school," says her mother.
