Rehema is a four-year-old child from Tanzania. She is the youngest of four children in her family. Her family depends on farming maize and beans for their livelihood. Her father supplements their income by doing casual day jobs, such as working on other people’s farms and delivering water to the village using a bicycle. Two years ago, Rehema began experiencing pain while walking, and soon after, her legs started bowing outward. Rehema was diagnosed with bilateral genu varus. Several factors could cause this condition, such as growth disorders, vitamin deficiencies, or excessive fluoride found in contaminated drinking water. As a result, the knees can be angled inwards or outwards, making it difficult to walk and may cause long-term joint damage. she suffers from significant pain and struggles to walk even short distances in the community. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $777 to fund surgery for Rehema. The procedure is scheduled to take place on October 22nd at our medical partner's care center, Kafika House. Treatment will hopefully restore Rehema's mobility, allow her to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease her risk of future complications. Rehema's mother says: "I hope my daughter's legs will be fine and she will lead a good life".

Savoeun is a 60-year-old grandfather from Kampong Cham province, Cambodia. He is married and has one son, two daughters, and three grandchildren. He retired from the military and is now a rice farmer with his wife and son. He enjoys listening to the news on the radio or visiting the local pagoda in their small rural village. About two years ago, Savoeun developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him photophobia, itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. He feels that he has lost much of his independence due to his limited vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he is not able to go places on his own. When Savoeun learned about our medical partner Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), he traveled for 4.5 hours seeking treatment. On August 8th, doctors will perform phacoemulsification cataract surgery (cataract surgery that employs ultrasound energy), and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Savoeun is able to contribute $60 to the cost of the surgery and is asking for help to raise the remaining $253 to fully fund the procedure. He said, "I hope after surgery my eye can see clearly again. I can go to the rice field with my wife and be useful to my family."

Christine is a 47-year-old woman from Uganda who practices small-scale farming alongside her brother. She has a teenage daughter, who is in school studying. Christine shared that she lost her parents at a young age, which affected her education, and she works hard to ensure her daughter’s needs are met. Christine has been experiencing severe backache and other troubling symptoms for a while. She has been diagnosed with uterine myoma and experiences anemia. The doctors determined that Christine needs to undergo a hysterectomy to finally heal. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), can help Christine receive treatment. On October 13th, she will undergo surgery at AMH’s care center. Upon recovery, Christine will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. AMH is requesting $219 to fund this procedure. Christine says, “I have no one to help me with the money needed. I will be glad to be assisted since, without the treatment, I know I will suffer more.”
