Yee is a 59-year-old mother of two from Thailand. She lives with her family and is retired due to her health condition. Her husband works as a day laborer, and her two sons work at a restaurant. In her free time, Yee enjoys meditation and listening to religious sermons. In October 2023, Yee began experiencing pain, difficulty urinating, and producing only small amounts of urine. Additionally, she feels swelling and pain in her back, which has forced her to stop working. She has been diagnosed with kidney stones, which are hard deposits of minerals that form in the kidneys and are often very painful to pass. She has been advised to undergo surgery to remove her kidney stones. If left untreated, Yee's symptoms will continue to worsen and will put her at risk for further health complications in the future. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF), requests $1,500 to fund Yee's kidney stone removal surgery. The procedure is scheduled to take place on September 17th. Yee said, "I wish I could have the kidney stone surgery, but I don't have the money to cover the cost. But now, I have found that Watsi and BCMF can help me. I am very grateful and will pray for Watsi donors to remain healthy and help more patients."

Uk is a grandmother from Cambodia. She is a corn and chili farmer. She has one son, two daughters, and six grandchildren. She likes to listen to monks pray on the radio. Five years ago, Uk developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurry vision, irritation, clouded lenses, and photophobia. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Uk learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for one hour seeking treatment. On April 3, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $398 procedure. She says, "I hope my vision improves so that I can recognize my family member's faces again."

Nancy is the youngest in a family of two children from Tanzania. She was born on April 16, 2016 with a congenital disorder known as hydrocephalus - a buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in her brain. Nancy cries a lot, and her mother often feels helpless. Nancy’s parents have taken their daughter to different hospitals without getting proper treatment, as they are unable to afford the cost. Nancy needs surgery to help regulate the amount of cerebral spinal fluid in her head. If not treated, Nancy is at risk of going blind and the size of her head will continue to increase. She will not be able to support her head, and thus will never be able to walk, and will be dependent on other people. Nancy’s mother is a homemaker and her father works at a local mine. His income is not stable and he is struggling to support his family. As much as he would like his daughter to be treated, he cannot afford the $775 cost of surgery his daughter needs to get healthy. “I just want my baby to be well,” said Nancy’s father. Let's help make it possible!

Meet Un! Un is a 34-year-old farmer living in Cambodia. He and his wife have one young son. In July 2013, Un injured his leg while working on his farm. He wasn't able to seek immediate medical care. Now, he's developed a chronic wound infection. It's difficult for him to walk or work. For $300, Un will receive surgery to remove the infected tissue and do a skin graft to set his leg up to heal properly. Let's prevent this accident from turning into a lifelong disability!

Leu is an upbeat mother of three living in Cambodia. Leu is happiest when she can spend time caring for her home and her children, but recently she has been in too much pain to do any of her usual activities. A few months ago, Leu fell down a flight of stairs while working around the house and badly injured her hip. Since then, the pain has worsened and limited her ability to walk even short distances. Leu has been diagnosed with avascular necrosis, a condition resulting from her fall which interrupts blood supply to her hip and could lead to bone tissue death. Leu needs a total hip replacement but cannot afford the cost of surgery. For $500, we can fund Leu's surgery to restore her mobility and eliminate her hip pain. This operation will allow Leu to return to the life she loves; caring for her children and her home!
