Robelto is a 23-year-old from Haiti. He loves school, playing soccer, and spending time with his family. The eldest of five children, he hopes to finish school and to study engineering abroad. A few months ago Robelto began experiencing abdominal pains. Doctors discovered he had colon cancer. Emergency surgery was performed. Now, chemotherapy is needed to cure his cancer completely. Robelto currently lives with symptoms such as loss of appetite, pelvis pain, insomnia, and fever. The cost of chemotherapy is $1,500. Doctors say there is a good chance the cancer can be cured with this treatment. Robelto is grateful for the treatment he has received so far but his family cannot afford this necessary next step. Tyamika is a 14-year-old girl with “knock knees,” a common condition in which the legs are turned inwards. Because of her condition, it’s difficult for Tyamika to walk, let alone run, without intense pain. CURE’s hospital in Malawi can perform an operation on Tyamika that they believe will help her walk. They are confident that with treatment, Tyamika will be relieved of her pain and be able to live a normal life. Tyamika comes from a small farming community in rural Malawi. She remains positive despite her condition, and hopes to become a teacher one day. Tyamika loves school, and looks forward to getting the treatment she needs to do her best in her classes and achieve her dreams.

Dudhakala is a 15-year-old girl from Nepal who needs surgery to treat rheumatic heart disease. For the last year, she’s battled worsening symptoms of her condition, including shortness of breath, heart palpitations, and severe tremors that prevent her from walking, playing, or living any kind of a normal life. If given the opportunity to have this surgery, Dudhakala’s whole life will change. Dudhakala has lived with her grandmother since she was 5 years old because her parents are not involved in her life. She loves school, studying Nepali stories, and playing [Kabaddi](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GniFV8PtVhM) with her friends during her free time, but she’s had to limit her activity lately because of her worsening condition. Last month, Dudhakala stopped going to school because she is no longer able to make the 10 minute walk from her home. Her grandmother does the best she can to provide for Dudhakala, but she does not have nearly enough money to cover the cost of her treatment. Despite the challenges thrown her way, Dudhakala remains positive and hopeful about her future. She told her doctors that when she grows up she wants to become a teacher and take care of her grandmother. Let’s make sure a treatable heart condition doesn’t stand in the way of her ability to do it!

Sheily is a 5-year-old girl from Guatemala with a type of congenital heart disease called patent ductus arteriosus. PDA is a condition in which the ductus arteriosus, a normal fetal heart vessel that allows the baby’s blood to go around its lungs before birth, fails to close after the baby is born and messes up the flow of blood between the aortic and pulmonary vessels of the heart. Sheily’s condition makes her constantly fatigued. PDA is known to cause labored and shallow breathing, rapid pulse, and poor growth. It’s not a happy situation for a 5-year-old kid to endure. Luckily, Sheily ended up in the care of doctors who know exactly how to treat her condition. They tell us that with preoperative lab work and surgery, Sheily has an excellent chance of living a completely normal life. Sheily comes from an extremely poor region of Guatemala. Our Medical Partner tells us that her parents are active members of the local community counsil and are leaders in fighting for the nutritional health of the community, but they lack the financial resources to pay for their daughter’s medical care. Let’s fund Sheily’s treatment and show them that we’ve got their backs!

Tilahun has suffered from rheumatic heart fever and mitral stenosis (a condition that prevents the heart's mitral valve from fully opening) for the last thirteen years. For as long as he can remember, Tilahun has dealt with fatigue, shortness of breath, and chest pain on a daily basis. Tilahun lives in a mud hut without electricity or running water. His parents, both farmers, have spent most of their meager incomes on his medical expenses, and their resources are running out. Tilahun is extremely bright. He ranks fourth out of sixty-five students in his class! Seriously, ALL this kid does is study, with occasional breaks to watch his favorite soccer teams play. Tilahun's dream is to continue his education and become a teacher. Recently, Tilahun's condition has become so bad that he's had to make the agonizing decision to leave school. His doctors say that if left untreated, his condition could cause heart failure. We need to raise $1,575 so Tilahun can afford to fly to India and get the treatment that can save his life.
