This is Dharma. Dharma is a 22-year-old farmer in Nepal. She tends a small field with her in-laws to support herself and her husband. Dharma recently fell from a tree while collecting fodder for cattle, which knocked her unconscious, gave her a cut on her face, and fractured her pelvis. Dharma has not been able to walk since the fall and is in a great deal of pain. Unfortunately, the pelvic fracture that Dharma has requires surgery. If the fracture is not repaired, she may have lifelong disability and difficulty standing, walking and working. For $1,040, Dharma will receive surgery to repair her pelvis fracture. Dharma hopes the surgery will get her back on her feet so she can start a family with her husband. Let's help Dharma get the care she needs!

Reginah is a quiet 44-year-old mother from Kenya who is giving everything she has to taking care of her three children since her husband passed away. Unfortunately, Reginah has cervical dysplasia. She needs a total abdominal hysterectomy in order to eliminate the risk of cervical cancer, but because she earns money by doing small chores for her neighbors, she cannot afford the hysterectomy on her own. Reginah's surgery will cost $885. She tells her doctors that she “longs to see her children grow up and become independent.” Let's fund her treatment so she can watch them grow up without a health problem looming over her!

Sandray is the only child of a loving couple. She was born with hydrocephalus, a condition in which extra fluid in the head places pressure on the brain. Sandray had a surgery early in life to place a shunt in her head and decrease the pressure of the fluid. However, the shunt is malfunctioning, and she now needs a $950 surgery to replace it and relieve the pressure for good. Repairing this shunt will help her brain develop normally and enable her to grow again. Without this surgery, Sandray will have permanent neurological problems. Together, we can help this family see their beloved daughter grow up without major medical complications.

Timoteo is a delightful 15-year-old from a Guatemalan community with which our medical partner, Wuqu' Kawok, has been partnered for a long time. In fact, his older sister is on the counsel of leaders, which coordinates Wuqu' Kawok's nutrition program in the community! Lately Timoteo is experiencing progressive hoarseness and pain when talking, which unfortunately hasn't responded to general medical therapy. This suggests that he probably has a lesion on his vocal cords. Fortunately, throat cancer can likely be ruled out considering his young age. Timoteo is very embarrassed by this condition, but he is positive despite it. He doesn’t even complain of the pain, but he says that he is looking forward to having this behind him. Timeteo is a great kid who could really use our help. Wuqu' Kawok is seeking $800 to fund Timoteo's treatment and correct his condition. Let’s do what we can to help out young Timoteo, an extended member of the Watsi family!

Hagerie is a one-year-old girl from Ethiopia who was born with an obstruction to her bowel that makes it impossible for her to go to the bathroom normally. She needs immediate treatment to remove the abnormal part of her intestine and enable her to live a normal, healthy life. Hagerie's parents work as farmers, but with seven other children to support, they cannot shoulder their young daughter's medical costs alone. The surgery that would fix Hagerie condition costs $1,500, a sum that far exceeds her family's means. Let's give Hagerie a chance at a normal childhood!

The phrase on his shirt sums it up. Davis is "faster, stronger," and (the last word won't fit within our photo dimensions) "awesomer." Davis has overcome tremendous adversity in his young life already. After suffering from paralysis on one side of his body as a child, Davis now can stand and even walk. Davis' early challenges, however, masked the fact that he suffers from a deformity in his foot, which impedes him from walking properly despite all the progress he's made. A $1,000 surgery will repair Davis' foot and grant him full mobility, bringing his recovery to a close!

Maria is an amazing 60-year-old indigenous woman from Guatemala. She has a large, loving family for whom she is the primary financial supporter. Maria recently came to the Wuqu’ Kawoq clinic to be seen for abdominal bleeding, but a routine examination and follow-up tests revealed that she has cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is one of the biggest killers of indigenous women in Guatemala. Women rarely have access to effective programs for early screening and treatment, so by the time they are diagnosed it is usually too late. Watsi’s partners at Wuqu' Kawoq emphasized how rare it was that they caught Maria’s cancer before it spread. They told us that with the right treatment, she has a very good chance of survival. After years of supporting her family, Maria is now unable to afford the medical care she needs. We need to raise $1235 to make sure she can cover the cost of intensive chemotherapy and radiation, labwork and imaging studies, and travel and lodging over the next few months.
