U All is a 44-year-old monk from Burma. He used to work as a painter, but since becoming a monk, he has only painted for pleasure and occasionally if he needs money. Generally, he survives off of donations of food and money from Buddhists in the area who visit his forest temple. Experiencing severe abdominal pain, U All was diagnosed with bile duct stones in August 2017. Relying first on medication from the hospital, he started to manage the pain with traditional medicine when the medication from the hospital stopped working. U All has been advised to undergo a biliary obstruction repair, a procedure to repair the blockage of the bile ducts, which carry bile from the liver to the gallbladder. If left untreated, U All's symptoms will continue to worsen and put him at risk for further health complications in the future. After seeking treatment through our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF), U All is scheduled to undergo his biliary obstruction repair on April 18. BCMF is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of U All's procedure and care. “After surgery I want to continue my life as a monk," says U All. "But, there is still a part of me that wants to become human again and work as a painter.”

Brian is a cheery little boy who loves cars. In fact, he has already declared his plans to become a driver. Brian's father is no longer involved with the family, so his mother supports him and his four siblings by selling fruit at the local market. Brian was born with cervical hygroma, a malformation of the lymphatic system that causes a mass to form on the neck. If it's not treated soon, the mass could cause difficulty in breathing and swallowing. Doctors at Kijabe Hospital can remove Brian's mass through surgery. Brian's mother works hard, but she barely earns enough to support her young family, let alone pay for the specialty medical care her son needs. Dorothy was warming herself standing next to an open flame, as many Malawians do in the cooler winter months, when her skirt caught fire and burned much of her lower body. Now, Dorothy has post-burn scar contractures on her abdomen. She often complains of pain, and she has problems walking or running when her damaged skin needs to extend to accommodate the movement. Dorothy needs a $1000 contracture release and reconstruction surgery to relieve her pain and restore her mobility. As farmers, Dorothy's parents cannot afford the cost of her care, but they desperately want their daughter to receive treatment. After missing the started date of school after her injury, Dorothy is currently enrolled in her first year, and everyone hopes she will be able to continue. This surgery is the first step toward making that possible.

Mussa is a 12-year-old boy with a large, painful growth on his left thigh. Mussa’s doctors say the pain will increase as the growth continues to grow. Mussa needs surgery to remove the growth from his leg. Mussa is in 5th grade. His doctors tell us: “He told us that he wants to be a pilot when he finishes school. We have no doubt that Mussa can make that happen, he's really intelligent, we just hope that he's able to stay in school. Receiving this surgery will go a long towards making that possible for him.”
