14-year-old Rajesh "is the captain of the volleyball team in his village," shares our medical partner, Possible. Recently, he injured himself during a game and fractured his left elbow. Rajesh lives with his parents and younger sisters in Nepal. His family works on a farm, and Rajesh helps out by tending to the cattle and looking after his younger sisters. His father told our medical partner, Possible, that Rajesh is “excellent at sports” and that he hopes that this injury does not affect his mobility. Rajesh needs proper medical treatment and time to heal, but his family cannot afford the $579 fracture treatment he needs. Treatment consists of surgery to align Rajesh’s fractured bones, and casting to ensure proper healing. Let’s help make surgery possible for Rajesh!

Meet Kosal! Kosal is a 10-year-old boy who lives in Cambodia. He is in the second grade and travels two hours one way to attend school. Kosal enjoys taking care of his younger sister. "Kosal started to get sore throats and breathing problems six months ago," our medical partner writes. "He also has trouble sleeping and is missing school because of chronic swollen tonsils. A simple surgery can remove his tonsils and get him to feel better." With $150 we can pay for Kosal's surgery, help him breathe more easily, and get him back in school. Let's make it happen.

Say hello to Kettelene from Haiti! Kettelene is eight years old and lives in the countryside with her mother and six siblings. She's an optimistic girl who loves her family and going to school. More recently, though, going to school has become less fun, as the other students are starting to notice her cleft lip. Her mother says that the other kids call her “crab lady” and that she struggles socially. Kettelene’s mother works in a market and does not make enough money to support her family of seven while also paying for the specialized medical care her daughter needs. She has managed to get Kettelene to a hospital but cannot afford the surgery. If we can raise $960, doctors at our institutional partner, Project Medishare, will perform surgery to fix Kettelene’s cleft lip. Let's help Kettelene have the happy childhood and bright future she deserves.

For three years, Baba has been avoiding public life due to his reliance on a urinary catheter. Baba has urinary retention due to BPH, or an enlarged prostate. Because he has not had the resources to get an operation, Baba has been using a stopgap treatment, a urinary catheter that he has to have treated and drained every four days. The stigma of the catheter has seriously impacted his quality of life, as he has not been able to go out in public due to pain and catheter related odors. In spite of these challenges, Baba remains optimistic and enthusiastic about life. He is a neighborhood comedian, and he never misses a game of cards. His providers say that he is a warrior! Baba needs a total of $770 in order to have a procedure called a TURP (transurethral resection of prostate). This treatment will remove excess prostate tissue. This will prevent future possible cancerous growth, and, most importantly, Baba will no longer be dependant on a catheter. Donating $30 will entirely cover the cost of the medication that Baba needs. $60 will pay for his lab analysis, and $80 will pay for his hospitalization. The total cost of the surgery will be $600. Tilahun has suffered from rheumatic heart fever and mitral stenosis (a condition that prevents the heart's mitral valve from fully opening) for the last thirteen years. For as long as he can remember, Tilahun has dealt with fatigue, shortness of breath, and chest pain on a daily basis. Tilahun lives in a mud hut without electricity or running water. His parents, both farmers, have spent most of their meager incomes on his medical expenses, and their resources are running out. Tilahun is extremely bright. He ranks fourth out of sixty-five students in his class! Seriously, ALL this kid does is study, with occasional breaks to watch his favorite soccer teams play. Tilahun's dream is to continue his education and become a teacher. Recently, Tilahun's condition has become so bad that he's had to make the agonizing decision to leave school. His doctors say that if left untreated, his condition could cause heart failure. We need to raise $1,575 so Tilahun can afford to fly to India and get the treatment that can save his life.
