Meet Som, a 69-year-old woman from Cambodia! According to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), "Som is a nun and spends most of her days at the pagoda. She likes to listen to the monk prayers and speeches to nuns. She is excited to be able to participate in all activities of nun life." Unfortunately, "two months ago Som had a bad fall and broke her forearm as a result. She can’t pick up anything with her right arm, and requires the assistance of her son and grandchildren to do things around the house,” explains CSC. Without proper treatment, Som will continue to have limited use of her right arm, resulting in limited independence. For $405, Som will receive treatment to allow her fracture to be repaired. Som will be able to use her right arm again, and will be pain free. Let’s help Som regain her independence!

“My wish is to go back to school when my bones are strong,” shares 13-year-old Ernest from Tanzania. “I will study hard to become a doctor so that I can help others who are suffering from various illnesses.” Ernest has bilateral genu valgus, a bone deformity that causes his legs to bend and prevents him from walking. “Ernest is the third-born in a family of eight children,” shares our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). “Ernest is very polite and friendly. He was born perfectly fine and had normal growth until he was eight years old. His bones slowly started to bend and became very weak to the extent that Ernest could no longer walk. He had to stop going to school and could not play soccer or run around with other children as he used to.” “Ernest’s parents are small-scale farmers– relying on growing and selling maize and beans,” AMHF continues. “Apart from farming, Ernest’s mother also buys and sells charcoal. Their income is still not enough to cover the cost of their everyday expenses as well as pay the cost of corrective surgery which Ernest needs.” Today, his doctors write, "Ernest is unable to stand or walk due to the deformity of his limbs." But with $940, they can perform surgery to improve his mobility and enable him to pursue his dreams!

“Anne-Keila is our first baby. I would love to see her walk normally and have a healthy life like the other kids,” explains Anne-Keila’s father. Meet Anne-Keila, a 14-month-old baby girl living in Haiti. Anne-Keila lives in the Haitian countryside with her parents, who are both small farmers. Farming does not provide a substantial income and Anne-Keila’s parents are unable to afford the medical treatment Anne-Keila needs. Anne-Keila was born with hydrocephalus, a condition causing an excessive accumulation of fluid in the brain, massive head size and sun setting eyes. If untreated, this condition can lead to brain damage, a loss in mental and physical abilities, and even death. We can fund a successful treatment for $1,260. Doctors will drain the excess fluid in Anne-Keila’s head and prevent more fluid from accumulating. This treatment will save her life and allow her to be healthy and go to school in the future. Meet Ruth, a Kaqchikel-speaking 14-year-old girl from Guatemala! Her parents are farmers who work diligently in order to support her. She enjoys going to school and hopes to become a teacher when she graduates. Ruth was born with a growth in front of her left ear. Our medical partner Wuqu' Kuwoq tells us, "This is a benign cyst, but it has been growing recently, causing increasing pain and also becoming a source of cosmetic embarrassment and site for recurrent skin infections." To fix this, Ruth needs a surgery to remove the growth. "This growth has been becoming very painful, and I will be glad to get rid of it!" Ruth says. For $360, we can fund Ruth's surgery to remove the cyst, relieving her pain and allowing her to focus on school!

Emiliana is a 52-year-old mother of three young school children fighting non-Hodgkins lymphoma. She has powered through most of her chemotherapy like a champ, and has just three more rounds to go before she is finished with treatment. Emiliana has a large and devoted family that has been able to scrape together enough cash to pay for her medical expenses so far, but their financial resources are now exhausted.
