Emmanuel is a sweet 60-year old man who developed a chronic ulcer on his leg after slipping and scraping it five years ago. Emmanuel sought medical assistance at the time, but was given a round of weak drugs that didn’t do much of anything to help. Now, Emmanuel experiences too much pain to walk. His doctors told us that if left untreated, “there is a 70% chance the ulcer will become cancerous.”
Fortunately, doctors at African Mission Healthcare Foundation can perform surgery on Emmanuel that will help him heal. They are confident the procedure will “ride him of pain and restore him to a normal productive life.”
Because of his condition, Emmanuel lost his job as a waiter in a hotel. His wife, Peninah, has been forced to become the family’s breadwinner. She makes a meager income selling vegetables from their garden, but it’s hardly enough to support them, let alone pay for the surgery Emmanuel needs. It pains Emmanual to see his wife take on a role that he gladly filled when he had the ability. We hope to help Emmanual get this wound treated so he can return to his normal life.
