Rayuth loves soccer and fishing, and his favorite subject is math. He hopes to continue his studies and receive a teaching degree. Rayuth lives in Kampong Chhnang province with his parents and three younger siblings. Both of his parents sell vegetables in the local market.
In January 2023, he was in a motorbike accident and fractured his left femur and tibia. He underwent multiple surgeries in the provincial hospital, but his leg was unable to heal, and he had a below-the-knee amputation four weeks later. Since then, he has developed pain and subsequently limited range of motion in his left knee. He and his mother traveled for 3 hours to the Children’s Surgical Centre for consultation.
Rayuth needs to undergo an amputation revision surgery with targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR). This nerve transfer technique aids in reducing pain at the amputation site. Now, his family needs support to fund the $572 procedure and post-op care.
Rayuth shared, “I will be happy not to have pain anymore and start moving on with my life and studies.”

Rayuth underwent an amputation so he can live a pain free life.
Rayuth and his parents traveled three hours to Phnom Penh so doctors could help him address the persistent pain on his leg caused by a previous surgery. Doctors at CSC modified his previous amputation and performed targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR), rerouting the exposed nerves into muscle. During the regeneration process, those nerves will be less likely to send pain signals to the brain.
Rayuth will soon begin physical therapy and rehabilitation, an essential part of his recovery to help him regain strength and mobility and adapt to his modified limb. As he heals, the pain will decrease and he will have an increased range of motion, allowing him to be fitted with a prosthesis.
Rayuth shared, “I look forward to going home and continuing my studies so I can go to university to become a teacher.”
