Emmanuel is a child from Kenya. He is the second born in a family of two children. His father owns a cereal shop in Voi town and his mother owns a khat shop in the same town. Emmanuel was born with hypospadias, a congenital abnormality that causes urinary dysfunction. Without treatment, he will continue to experience uncomfortable symptoms and will be at risk for infertility. Fortunately, Emmanuel is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on August 4th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $735 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. Emmanuel’s mother shared, “It will be great to see Emmanuel treated.”

Mercy is a 49-year-old single mother of two children from Kenya who makes a living as a street vendor. Mercy has been experiencing heavy bleeding and lower abdominal pains for the past three years. She has been diagnosed with uterine fibroids. She needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $791 to fund Mercy's surgery. On July 3, she will undergo surgery at our medical partner's care center. Once recovered, Mercy will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. “I have no one to help me yet this problem is affecting my social life and my ability to work. I am asking for Watsi's help so that I can be well and be able to live a normal life," shared Mercy.

Allan is a child from Tanzania. His mother is a single mother who works at a local restaurant as a cook in order to support her baby. Allan was born with hypospadias, a congenital abnormality that causes urinary dysfunction. Without treatment, he will continue to experience uncomfortable symptoms and will be at risk of infertility. Fortunately, Allan is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on June 2nd. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,086 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. Allan's mother says, "Please help my son get this treatment so that he can be able to grow up into a normal man.”

Bunthoeun is a 36-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. He has one son and he farms rice with his wife. After work, he usually helps his wife with cooking and watching their son. In November 2019 Bunthoeun was in a motorbike accident that caused a fracture in his left leg. It is still difficult for him to walk, and he is in chronic pain. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On April 27th, Bunthoeun will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $465. This procedure will help him walk easily again and move in any direction. "I hope that I will be able to walk well, so I can go back to return to the rice field," Bunthoeun said.

Nyo is a 50-year-old woman from Burma who lives with her husband, her son, and her daughter in a village in Shwe Bo Township. Nyo’s husband is a subsistence farmer while she is a homemaker. Her son sells bus tickets at the bus station in Taunggyi Town, Shan State and he sends some pocket money to his parents at home. Nyo’s husband sometimes work as a construction day laborer. Nyo was diagnosed with a heart condition that involves a malformation of her mitral valve, the valve between the left atrium and left ventricle. This valve controls the flow of blood, but certain conditions may cause blood to flow backward or the valve to narrow. Currently, she is tired and cannot walk long distances. She also has chest pain and a poor appetite. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund a mitral valve replacement for Nyo. The treatment is scheduled to take place on March 16th and, once completed, will hopefully allow her to live more comfortably. Nyo said, “I am very upset that I have to suffer this kind of condition.”

Saitabau is a 4-month-old baby from Tanzania. He is the only child to his parents who depend on livestock keeping for their living and their income is very little to get them by. Saitabau has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of his condition, Saitabau has been experiencing an increasing head circumference and irritability. Without treatment, Saitabau will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,238 to cover the cost of surgery for Saitabau that will treat his hydrocephalus. The procedure is scheduled to take place on March 2nd and will drain the excess fluid from Saitabau's brain and replace the previous insertion that is blocked. This will reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve his quality of life. With proper treatment, Saitabau will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young boy. Saitabau’s mother says, “My son had gotten better but now he is sick again please help him get another surgery.”

Ethiopia is a three-year-old boy from Ethiopia. He loves to interact with people he knows. Ethiopia loves to play games and to watch television. He has three brothers and a younger sister. His mother is a house wife and his father is a teacher in a high school. His father has a low monthly income and is barely able to support his family's basic needs. Ethiopia was born with hypospadias, a congenital abnormality that causes urinary dysfunction. Without treatment, he will continue to experience uncomfortable symptoms and will be at risk of infertility. Fortunately, Ethiopia is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on February 17th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,231 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. His father said, “In the future, I hope he will be a doctor because he loves to play as a doctor.”

Joseph is a boy from Kenya. He is the firstborn of four children and lives with his parents and younger siblings in a two-room house in Central Kenya. Joseph is yet to join high school because of the condition as he fears the stigma. His mother works in their local market selling porridge and chapatis’ while his father does any casual task ranging from construction work to farming to sustain the family needs. Joseph was born with hypospadias, a congenital abnormality that causes urinary dysfunction. Without treatment, he will continue to experience uncomfortable symptoms and will be at risk of infertility. Fortunately, Joseph is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on January 2nd. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $700 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. “I want to join my peers and not feel left out,” says Joseph.

Sophea is a 29-year-old tailor from Cambodia. In her free time, she enjoys listening to music and watching movies on television. When she was three years old, Sophea had an ear infection. This infection caused a cholesteatoma, or an abnormal skin growth, to develop in the middle ear behind the ear drum. For this reason, Sophea experiences hearing loss, headache, ear infection, discharge, and itchiness. She is unable to hear others and finds it difficult to communicate with those around her. Sophea traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On November 18th, she will undergo a mastoidectomy procedure in her right ear. During this procedure, ENT surgeons will remove the cholesteatoma. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $842 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Sophea said, "I hope that after the operation, my hearing will improve and the ear infection will stop."

Veronicah is a farmer from Kenya. Veronicah is a peasant farmer in her small piece of ancestral land where she lives with her parents and teenage child. Veronicah has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Without treatment, the cancer may spread to other organs. A mastectomy, a surgery to remove breast tissue, has been suggested to rid her body of breast cancer and to prevent the cancer from metastasizing. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $816 to cover the cost of a mastectomy for Veronicah. The procedure is scheduled to take place on October 2nd. After treatment, Veronicah will hopefully return to a cancer-free life. “I keep hearing the doctor’s voice over and over-“breast cancer” “breast cancer. I just do not know what to do,” says Veronicah.

Abdirahim is a child from Ethiopia. Abdirahim is a cute boy who loves to play with others. He loves to play football with other children in the village. He also loves to watch animation movies. Abdirahim’s father is retired while his mother was a business woman who supported the family until six months ago when she passed away. Abdirahim has five siblings. Abdirahim underwent a colostomy, in which the end of the colon is brought through an opening in the abdominal wall. This surgery is often performed to bypass bowel malformations, but colostomies are usually temporary and may call for closure. In Abdirahim's case, his colostomy requires closure in order to restore bowel function and prevent future complications. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $961 to cover the cost of a colostomy closure for Abdirahim. The surgery is scheduled to take place on September 09 and, once completed, will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. His dad said “After the operation I see a bright future for our child. I believe his trouble will come to end. And for us the families, it is a big relief.”

Cynthia is a five year old sweet and talkative girl. On Tuesday evening, Cynthia came to our hospital accompanied by her mother with complaints after sustaining a fall one week ago. She sustained an injury on her left hand now she is unable to flex her elbow. On arrival, an x-Ray was done that confirmed that Cynthia has a completely displaced supracondylar fracture. Cynthia has been admitted into the pediatrics ward awaiting OREF surgery. Cynthia’s father is a shopkeeper and her mother is a housewife. Her father earns an average of $52 in a month. Having been blessed with three children, this gross income is too little to meet the needs of his children. He is unable to raise the funds for Cynthia's surgery bill causing him alot of fear and anxiety. Doctors suggest that her fracture need to be fixed urgently to avoid healing badly.
