Meet Munyao, a middle aged man and a father of four children. His family lives in a two room house in Kenya and relies only on a small piece of land, which is attended to by his wife. Two of his children in high school rely on government bursaries for their school fees. The other two children benefit from the free primary education program. Since February 2015, Munyao has not been able to work. Munyao was involved in a road accident that left him with a broken leg and arm. He had several surgeries on his right hand and leg. Since his employer (he worked as a company driver) had not insured him, Munyao was left with the burden of paying the hospital bills. Continuous treatment in different hospitals left him struggling to raise money for an accumulated bill of over 600,000 KES, or 5937 USD. He has sold most of his properties, including part of his ancestral land, to meet medical bills as well as support his family. Munyao's broken right arm healed improperly and is now infected. With $1500, he can receive a bone transport procedure in order to regenerate tissue within his right ulna [arm]. Munyao has been scheduled for a bone transport in our facility, but he is not able to cover the cost of the whole bill. Munyao has pain and the arm is swollen. He also complains of numbness. If not treated, Munyao can develop a severe infection, which may result in amputation of the arm. After treatment, the pain, swelling and numbness will be gone, and Munyao will be able to work again. Munyao says, "My wish is to be well, support my family and educate my children."
