Her parents are small-scale farmers, growing potatoes, beans, and maize, using the produce for income and personal consumption. In addition to providing for their immediate family, Leah’s parents care for relatives’ children, stretching their income very thin. Ann has developed spina bifida, a congenital disorder caused by the incomplete closing of the embryonic neural tube. As a result, Ann is likely to develop an underformed spine, which will lead to scoliosis and cause both bowel and bladder incontinence. Fortunately, we can step in here!
