6-week-old Israel is the youngest in a family of seven children. His family lives in a rental house in Kenya. His father is a subsistence farmer, while his mother is a housewife. At birth, Israel was diagnosed with spina bifida, a birth defect affecting the spinal cord. Since then, the condition has been worsening. His family decided to visit our medical partner's hospital, Bethany Kids Kijabe Hospital. On December 13, Israel will undergo a spina bifida closure surgery. This procedure will prevent the development of infections or a tethered cord. His family needs help to fund this $1,097 procedure.

Lin is a five-year-old girl from Cambodia. She has three brothers and one sister. She likes to play games around her home. Lin was diagnosed with meningoencephalocele, a condition in which an abnormal sac of fluid and tissue extends through the skull. She has undergone two successful surgeries with our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC). Recently, Lin returned to CSC because she was experiencing pain and headaches. On November 30, CSC surgeons performed a graft procedure to correct Lin's nose and alleviate her pain. Now, her family needs help to fund this $450 procedure. "I hope that my daughter will look better and will have no pain," says Lin's mother.

Srey Ley is six years old and in the first grade. She has three sisters and one brother. She likes to watch cartoons on TV and play with other children around her home. Srey Ley was diagnosed with meningoencephalocele, a condition in which an abnormal sac of fluid and tissue extends through the skull. She has undergone two surgeries to treat her condition. She returned to our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), for further repair of her right eyelid. On November 30, CSC surgeons performed a repair surgery. After recovery, she will feel more comfortable. Now, her family needs help to fund this $450 procedure. "I hope my daughter will look better and have no pain," says Srey Ley's father.

Meet Siev Mey, a nine-year-old boy from Cambodia. He has two sisters and two brothers. He likes to play games and read his school books. Siev Mey has neurofibromatosis––a disorder that affects the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and skin––in his right eyebrow. This causes tumors, or neurofibromas, grow underneath the skin. In 2012, he underwent surgery in a hospital in Phnom Penh, but his symptoms did not improve. The tumors cause him discomfort and pain. When Siev May's family learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), they traveled four hours to seek treatment. On November 29, CSC surgeons removed the neurofibromas from Siev Mey's right eyebrow. After recovery, he will be relieved of pain and discomfort. Now, CSC is requesting $224 to fund this procedure. "I hope that my son will look better and have no pain," says Siev Mey's mother.

Agrey is an 18-year-old young man from Tanzania. He is the youngest of eight children, and his parents are subsistence farmers. When he was nine years old, Agrey's legs began to bend, and they have continued to do so. Though he completed seventh grade, he has not sought a job because of the pain he experiences when he walks. Agrey's parents were referred to our medical partner's care center, The Plaster House, by a neighbor whose grandchild was born with the same condition. Agrey was diagnosed with genu valgus, a condition in which the legs bend inward and the knees touch. On November 30, he began a treatment plan that includes surgery, casting, and physiotherapy. Now, his family needs help to pay his $940 medical bill. "I would like to look like my peers with straight legs," says Agrey. "I hope that once I have finished my treatment, I will be able to look for a job."
