Mya is a 15-year-old girl from Burma. She lives with her mother, sister and great-grandmother in Chaung Thaung Village, Kawkareik Twoship, Karen State. Mya has been diagnosed with an ovarian tumor. She has been advised to undergo an oophorectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her ovaries. Fortunately, Mya is scheduled to undergo her oophorectomy on March 22. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $913 to cover the total cost of her procedure and care. Mya said, “I would like to study nature and animals in the future. I like reading different kinds of books, watching movies and am also interested in sewing clothes. I sometimes help my mother sell mohinga when I have free time.”

Jospina is a farmer from Kenya. She is 66 years old and resides in a small village in a very hilly region of the Rift Valley. About a week ago, Jospina was fetching wood to use while cooking. She tripped on a rock and sustained a fracture in her left hand. Although she has received first aid care, Jospina is currently experiencing pain and cannot concentrate on her responsibilities. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On April 19, Jospina will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. We hope this treatment will relieve Jospina of pain so she can return home to take care of her family. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $771 to fund this procedure. “I am in need of treatment because this pain is so severe," says Jospina.

Kalota is a 59-year-old Malawian man who lives and runs a small farm with his wife. He also works on computers to supplement the family income. In his free time, Kalota likes to spend quality time with his wife and visit his grandchildren. Since 2015, Kalota has been suffering with an inguinal hernia, which has caused him pain and discomfort. The price of the hernia repair surgery is outside his family's financial reach. In order to help Kalota, our medical partner, World Altering Medicine (WAM), is requesting $334 to fund Kalota's surgery and hospital stay. Kalota and his wife are thrilled that he will be able to receive the treatment he needs. Kalota is scheduled to undergo surgery on August 24 at WAM's care center, Nkhoma Hospital. "Thank you for this support," Kalota says.

Kyoyerondire is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. She is a widow with ten children, who have all married. For five years, Kyoyerondire has had a left inguinal hernia. The hernia causes her to experience pain and discomfort. Fortunately, on November 14, she will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $219 to fund Kyoyerondire's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow her to live more comfortably. Kyoyerondire says, “I am very glad for the support from Watsi. My life is going to be saved. May God bless you for your services. I hope to have peace of mind and continue to cultivate.”
