Meet Thouk, a 64-year-old grandmother from Cambodia. Thouk is married and has one son, three daughters, and 17 grandchildren. In her free time, she enjoys visiting the pagoda to join in ceremonies. Thouk developed a cataract in each eye two years ago, causing her blurred vision and tearing. Her symptoms make it difficult for her to see clearly, do her work well, and go outside on her own. In search of treatment, Thouk traveled three hours with her daughter to reach Watsi's medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC). Doctors at CSC determined that Thouk required small incision cataract surgery, during which the clouded lenses were removed and replaced with clear, intraocular lens implants. Unable to afford the procedure, Thouk needs assistance to cover the $292 surgical cost. After her recovery, Thouk will be able to see clearly once again and return to the activities she enjoys.
