Nan is a 70-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. Nan has two sons, five daughters, and many grandchildren. He lives with his wife who is also a farmer and all of their children are now married. Nan shared that he likes to listen the news on the radio. One year ago, Nan developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Nan learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for four hours with his daughter seeking treatment. On December 15th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure. Nan said, "As I get older, I want my eyes to see well so I can look after my grandchildren and support them having a good future."

Tola is a 27-year-old blacksmith from Cambodia. He and his wife were married only seven months ago, and are expecting their first child later this year. His wife is a vegetable seller and his parents are both famers. In his free time, he likes playing football with his friends, listening to music, and going on walks with his wife. In April 2020, he was in a motor accident that caused a fracture of his left forearm. He visited a traditional healer near his home for two months, but his fracture did not heal. He has had constant moderate pain in his arm and it has become swollen. He has been unable to work. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On August 5th, Tola will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $465. This procedure will correct his fracture and allow his arm to fully heal, so that he can once again use his left hand well. Tola shared, "I have been very worried about my wife and having enough money for my family when our child is born, so I am glad that I can get this surgery and that I can work again soon."

Vireak is an 18-year-old student. He is the elder brother to two younger sisters. Both of Vireak's parents work in construction. In his free time, Vireak enjoys reading books, exercising, listening to music, and helping his family with cooking and taking care of his younger sisters. Vireak has been diagnosed with lumbar scoliosis. He has a curved spine causing back pain and has difficulty walking and sitting. On November 12th, surgeons at the Children's Surgical Centre (CSC) will perform an orthopedic repair surgery on Vireak to alleviate his scoliosis pain. Our medical partner is requesting $1,500 to fund his spinal surgery. Once recovered, his quality of life will significantly improve and he will be able to return to life as normal. Vireak shared, "I hope after my surgery my back gets better and I can have a straight spine and be free of discomfort."
