Kamaria is a mother of one child. She is a pre-school teacher, while her husband is a news journalist. Kamaria is now pregnant with another child. Her doctors consider her pregnancy to be high-risk. On August 18, she will undergo a C-section to ensure a safe birth. After birth, Kamaria and her new baby will be monitored by the hospital staff. Now, she needs help to pay for this $280 procedure, which should ensure a safe delivery. She says, "After surgery I will resume teaching nursery as well as taking care of my family."

Ephy is a sweet 17-year-old girl from Kenya. She lost her parents at a young age and has been raised at a children's home. Ephy is an avid student in high school. Ephy has been diagnosed with perforations in both ear drums, leaving her susceptible to total hearing loss. To prevent her from losing her hearing, doctors at our medical partner's care center, AIC Kijabe Hospital, have recommended her for surgery. On August 16, Ephy will undergo surgery to correct her hearing. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is asking for $591 to cover the cost of her treatment. After surgery, Ephy is looking forward to succeeding in school!

Gift is a 16-year old girl from Tanzania. She is the oldest child in her family. Gift's mother runs a small business, and her father is a carpenter. Gift had a seizure near a fire, and her clothes caught fire. Since then, she has been undergoing treatment for the burns she sustained. She received two successful surgeries to release burn contractures on her arms, which restored function to her arms and allowed her to perform tasks independently. On November 8, 2016, doctors at our medical partner's hospital, Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre, performed a skin graft surgery to remove damaged skin. After recovery, her arm should appear and function normally. Now, Gift's family needs help to pay for this $780 treatment. "I hope to be able to help my parents again soon," says Gift.

Kalu is a 16-year-old girl who recently fell from a tree while she was collecting leaves for her family's cattle. She fractured her hip and broke a tooth in the fall. Kalu's family farms for a living but they must often supplement their income by taking on hard labor jobs, like carrying sand for construction sites. Kalu's brother took out a loan just to get her to the hospital, but the family cannot afford the treatment she needs to recover properly. Kalu is in a lot of pain and has difficulty moving her right leg. Surgery can correct her fracture and allow Kalu to avoid long-term deformity and disability. After she recovers, Kalu hopes to continue to help her family and complete her education. She is studying in grade seven and is looking forward to advancing to at least grade ten. Let's help Kalu live without pain so she can pursue her dreams!

Born and raised in Tanzania, Monica is the only girl in a family of six. She is a quiet one-year-old who likes to be by her mother’s side. Her parents are hardworking pastoralists, raising livestock to provide for their family. Monica recently suffered a traumatic burn and is having trouble learning how to walk as a result of the scar contracture (tightened skin) that followed. “I pray that my daughter will be able to walk when she grows up,” Monica's mother says. Physicians would like to perform contracture release surgery on Monica's right knee and ankle, skin grafting to the affected area, and an amputation of her 2nd and 5th toes. Totaling out at $1,080, these procedures will enable Monica to walk properly and give her a chance at a normal and productive life.

Cynthia was born with hydrocephalus, a condition in which fluid builds up in the skull and puts life-threatening pressure on the brain. When her condition became evident, Cynthia's mother Ester was confused and scared for her child’s health. She is doing her best to seek treatment and help Cynthia grow up normally. Now, at one year old, the fluid pressure is causing Cynthia’s eyes to bulge. Her doctors say that soon she won’t be able to shut them. She needs shunt placement surgery, or an endoscopy of the third ventricle in her brain, to drain the excess fluid. By funding her treatment, we can help Cynthia avoid fatal brain damage and hopefully enable her to make her developmental milestones like a normal baby.
