Marlie was born with a cardiac condition called partial atrioventricular canal defect, in which a hole allows blood to leak between all four chambers of the heart, depriving her body of oxygen and leaving her sickly and weak.
Marlie lives in a city in central Haiti called Mirebalais, with her mother, grandmother, and two older sisters. Her mother and grandmother both run a roadside food stand. She likes playing with her sisters and attending church.
If untreated, this condition could eventually become fatal. Marlie needs heart surgery to get healthy again, and the total cost is too much for her family to afford. $1,500 in Watsi funds, in addition to a $10,000 subsidy from Have a Heart Cayman Islands, will fully fund the surgery Marlie needs.
"We would like to say thank you to everyone who is helping Marlie to become healthy," her mother shared.
