Nu is a 57-year-old woman from Thailand. She lives with her husband and two sons in a refugee camp. Her sons go to school. She and her husband raise chickens and grow vegetables both for their own consumption and for sale. She has cataracts and her vision is blurry. She is often worried that she might slip and fall due to her poor vision, and she has to walk slowly and carefully. Sometimes, she will have a headache and a stiff neck. Since her vision has become blurry, she can no longer read, which she shared she especially likes to do to read the Bible or the lyrics for new hymns. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund lens replacement surgery for Nu. On September 15th, doctors will perform a lens replacement, during which they will remove Nu's natural lenses and replace them with an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $1,500 procedure. “When I go to church, I feel sad because I cannot participate, like reading passages from the Bible," she shared.

Victor is a 9-year old boy and the oldest of two children in his family. Victor's mother is a single parent working as a housekeeper. While his mother is at work, Victor often spends time with his grandmother who is a farmer. Victor was born with cerebral palsy and his grandmother shared that he has a lot of energy! Victor was brought to Cure International Hospital's outreach clinic by his grandmother. His condition makes it challenging for Victor to walk without falling. Now he is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on February 28th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Victor and his family raise the $1,224 necessary to fund this surgery so that Victor will be able to live a full, healthy live as he grows up. Victor's grandmother said, "I would love to see my grandson’s feet fully corrected and walking well like other children."

Chantha is a 65-year-old food seller at a school. He has three daughters and five grandchildren. Chantha lives with his wife and their youngest daughter. These days, Chantha does not go to the school with his wife to sell food because of his poor vision. He stays at home and watches his grandchildren. Chantha enjoys watching the news and Khmer boxing on TV and listening to the monks pray on the radio. Five years ago, Chantha developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him sensitivity to light, tearing, and blurry vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Chantha learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On May 24th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure. Chantha shared, "I hope after surgery my eye can see ok again so I can help my wife sell food at the school again."

Abdela is a 23-month-old boy from Ethiopia. He is a strong boy who loves to tease, run, and play with others. He is an only child, and his mother lost her husband in a car accident when she was eight months pregnant. Abdela's mother was a housewife and when her husband passed, his friend bought her a Tuk Tuk. She stays at home and she raises Abdela with the income she gets from the Tuk Tuk. The family lives in a rented house. Abdela was born with hypospadias, a condition that causes urinary dysfunction. Without treatment, he will continue to experience uncomfortable symptoms and will be at risk of infertility. Fortunately, Abdela is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on April 6th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,293 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. His mom shared, “after the treatment, I hope my boy will heal. I am sure he will be smart and reach a big position. His mind is very quick and he is smart.”

Mbabazi is a 64-year-old small scale farmer and a mother to one child. She works hard and supplements her income by working casual jobs in other people's farms. For close to three years now, Mbabazi has had severe lower abdominal pain associated with backache and other symptoms. Mbabazi is not able to do strenuous work due to back pain. She had been managing the pain with painkillers until she visited Nyakibale Hospital, where doctors recommend that she have a hysterectomy to treat her condition. Once treated, she will be out of risk of anaemia. However, Mbabazi cannot afford the cost of her care, and appeals for financial support. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $219 to fund Mbabazi's surgery. On April 6th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner's care center. Once recovered, Mbabazi will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Mbabazi shared, "My only hopes of having my health restored is by undergoing surgery and with your support, I hope it will surely be possible. I really hope the severe pain and bleeding will end."

Nsiimire is a 37-year-old farmer from Uganda. The mother of three farms together with her husband. She also loves weaving traditional baskets, which she sells for extra income for their family. For the last ten years, Nsiimire has struggled with an epigastric swell in her upper abdomen. Whenever she does strenuous work, coughs, or laughs, Nsiimire always feels a sharp pain. The swell has affected her daily life, especially on the farm. She was reviewed at our Medical Partner's Care Center Nyakibale Hospital and diagnosed with an epigastric hernia that requires herniorrhaphy. The surgery will reduce the chances of further complications and health challenges for Nsiimire. Fortunately, on February 23rd, she will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $230 to fund Nsiimire's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow her to live more comfortably and confidently and return to her daily life activities. Nsiimire says “I have had this condition for a long time but I hope that with your support, I will undergo surgery and regain my health again to resume farming and weaving baskets."
