Shanta is a 60-year-old wife and mother from Nepal who fractured her arm when she fell while fetching water. Shanta needs treatment as soon as possible, as the pain, swelling, and immobility is preventing her from caring for herself and her family. Shanta has two sons and enjoys sewing in her free time. Despite her age, Shanta works hard to sustain herself. She cannot, however, afford the expensive treatment required to fix her arm. Chorn is a 74-year-old man from Cambodia who likes spending time with his family and listening to the radio. A farmer in a small town, Chorn was in a field when his hip was injured by a cow. Chorn has been diagnosed with a hip fracture, and he’s described the pain as being unbearable. A $500 hip replacement surgery would decrease Chorn’s pain, restore his mobility, and allow him to return to work.
