Liam is a 3-month-old baby from Kenya. Liam was diagnosed with hypospadias immediately after birth. Having not seen such a condition before, Liam’s mother was shocked and didn’t know what to do. She went ahead to consult more about the condition from the medical practitioner who offered her advice. The facility where he was born was not in a position to repair the condition and the physician referred them to Bethanykids Hospital for treatment. Upon arrival, Liam was examined and surgery is recommended.  Liam’s mother recently started selling clothes in the local shopping centre. To supplement the daily earnings of his mother, his father is a bodaboda taxi driver in their community. With no other source of income, the family is not able to raise the required amount for their child’s surgery. Liam’s mother is appealing for financial help. Liam was born with hypospadias, a congenital abnormality that causes urinary dysfunction. Without treatment, he will continue to experience uncomfortable symptoms and will be at risk of infertility. Fortunately, Liam is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on October 13th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $735 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. Liam’s mother shared, “It is very difficult for us to raise any money for Liam’s treatment. As a family, any help offered to us will be appreciated.”

Orikiriza is married and a mother to two daughters who are both still in school. She is divorced from the father of her children, but got married to her second husband seven years ago. She earns a living from small-scale farming while her husband is a casual laborer. Unfortunately, they have also recently separated. Orikiriza has been experiencing irregular menstrual bleeding for the past two years. She feels general body weakness and is easily fatigued. She reports drowsiness and at time experiences dry mouth but her chief complaint is backache and lower abdominal pain. This has affected her quality of life and work performance. She has been diagnosed with bilateral ovarian cysts. If they are not removed her symptoms may persist. Fortunately our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare can help, Orikiriza receive treatment. Now, she needs your help to raise the $220 to fund the cost of her surgery. Orikiriza shared, “I hope to get much better after my surgery so that I can resume farming.”

Asiimwe is a 41-year-old small scale farmer from Uganda and a mother of three children. Her firstborn is 14 years old and in secondary school class one, the second born is 11 years old and in primary school class five, while her youngest is 8 years old and in primary school class four. Her husband is a primary school teacher and their family tries to earn enough to make ends meet. During her free time, she enjoys taking care of her family. About one year ago, Asiimwe began to experience troubling symptoms, including difficulty breathing. She was diagnosed with a goitre and needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Asiimwe receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on December 7th at our medical partner's care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $293, and Asiimwe and her family need your support. Asiimwe shared: “My condition has interfered with my productivity, I pray that I may be considered for surgery. I will resume farming as soon as possible.”

Sokchea is a 55-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. Sokchea is married and has two daughters, one son, and two grandchildren. Her husband is also a rice farmer. Sokchea enjoys watching Thai and Khmer dramas on TV. Five years ago, Sokchea developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her blurry vision, tearing, and photophobia. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Sokchea learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two and a half hours with her brother-in-law seeking treatment. On October 6th, doctors will perform phacoemulsification and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure. Sokchea said, "After surgery I hope I can recognize faces well and be able to help take care of my grandchildren."
