John is a student from Kenya. He is a form two student, aged 16 years from Zambezi in Kiambu County. He is a cheerful young man and the second last born in a family of six. John seems to be of a playful and easy going nature. John’s parents are both small scale farmers He fell from a tree and sustained a closed fracture of the left humerus on 20th August. He visited our facility and was reviewed by the surgeon who recommended ORIF. He is not able to use his left arm and is in chronic pain Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On September 05, John will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. This procedure will help him walk easily again Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $998 to fund this procedure. “I am looking forward to the day when I will be able to use my left hand like I was used to.” said John with a glimmer of hope in his eyes.

Kule is a farmer from Kenya. He is married and a father of six children. Since 2017, Kule has had an inguinal hernia. This hernia causes him pain and if not treated, the hernia may result in intestinal tissue damage or death. Fortunately, on March 27, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $249 to fund Kule's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. He says, "After surgery I will resume with my work."

Laitwell is a father to five and grandfather to 15 from Malawi. He is a farmer and enjoys chatting with his grandchildren in his free time. Since June 2018, Laitwell has been experiencing pain and urinary difficulty. These symptoms are caused by an enlarged prostate, a condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia. He needs to undergo a prostate resection surgery, a procedure in which surgeons will remove part of the enlarged gland. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $733 to fund Laitwell's surgery. On October 16, he will undergo prostate surgery at Nkhoma Hospital, our medical partner's care center. The requested money pays for supplies, medications, and two weeks of hospital stay. Laitwell's family is very supportive of this surgery and excited he will be feeling better soon. He says, "I am looking forward to resting and being free of pain after this surgery. Thank you."

Shama is a toddler from Haiti. She lives with her mother and father in a neighborhood of Port-au-Prince, and is their first child. She is getting ready to start preschool once her surgery is behind her. Shama has a cardiac condition called patent ductus arteriosus. A hole exists between two major blood vessels near the heart. Blood leaks through this hole, leaving her short of breath and causing heart failure. On October 7, she will undergo cardiac surgery at St. Damien Hospital, our medical partner's care center. During surgery, surgeons will tie off the hole so that blood can no longer flow through it. Another organization, Gift of Life International, is contributing $5,000 to pay for surgery. Shama's family also needs help to fund the costs of surgery prep. The $1,500 requested by our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, covers cardiac exams and medications. Her mother says, "I am very excited that my daughter can have this surgery and become normal!"

Noeun is a rice farmer from Cambodia. She has three sons, three daughters, and twelve grandchildren. She likes to watch Khmer and Indian films. Three years ago, Noeun developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and photophobia. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Noeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On August 7, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $211 procedure. She says, "I hope I can see clearly so I can do my work and learn about Buddha."

Malinga is a farmer from Malawi. Malinga lives with his wife, and they have seven children. In addition to farming, Malinga also raises goats. In his free time, he likes to attend his local church and worship with his family. Since January 2018, Malinga has had an inguinal hernia. This hernia causes Malinga a great amount of pain and prevents him from working his farm. Fortunately, on April 3, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at Nkhoma Hospital, our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $334 to fund Malinga's surgery. The requested money pays for supplies, medications, and six nights of hospital stay. Malinga was thrilled to find out his surgery would be funded, and he is looking forward to being able to again farm his land. He says, "Thank you for the support."
