Meet Tuhangirwe, a 38 year old business woman, living in Uganda with her husband and four children. While Tuhangirwe holds a degree in arts in education, she lost her teaching job as a result of the Covid-19 lockdown. She opened up a small retail shop, while her husband works as a farmer. Their income is limited due to the unstable weather patterns, and the weak economic climate. Tuhangirwe is currently expecting a baby. Because of the risks from her previous deliveries, her doctors are recommending that she deliver her new baby via a C-section in order to ensure the safety and well being of both Tuhangirwe and her child. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Tuhangirwe undergo a C-Section on September 27th, at Karoli Lwanga Hospital, Nyakibale. The C-Section will cost $252, and Tuhangirwe needs your support, to fund this procedure. Tuhangirwe says: “With your support, I expect the best of my surgery and hope to continue with my business to sustain my family.”

Mu lives with her four nieces and nephew in a refugee camp along the Thai/Burma border region. One of her nieces is a medic, the other a teacher, and the two youngest go to school with her nephew. Mu is unemployed and in her free time she enjoys gardening and reading the Bible. In 2019, Mu started to suffer from abdominal pain, back pain, and exhaustion. When she touched her lower abdomen, she could feel a mass. After the International Rescue Committee (IRC) helped her undergo medical investigations at multiple hospitals, she was diagnosed with bilateral endometriosis cysts and was told she has cysts outside of her uterus. Although she needed surgery, she was told she would have to wait because all surgeries had stopped due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in Thailand. In September, she had an ultrasound which showed that she had one new cyst. The doctor said she would need surgery soon but Mu could not go back to Mae Sot Hospital for the next few months because more COVID-19 cases in the refugee camp caused a lockdown. When she was finally able to go to the hospital this month, doctors have scheduled her for surgery to remove her cysts. With Mu unable to pay for the procedure, IRC referred her to our medical partner Burma Children Medical Fund for financial assistance to raise $1,500 that is needed for her treatment. "I felt like half of my worries disappeared when I heard that I could have surgery with the support of donors," said Mu. "I have waited so long to receive surgery and my condition is so painful. I would like to say thank you so much to everyone who is helping me."

Consolata is a shy, eight-year-old girl. She is the third born in a family of three children. She loves going to school and proudly wears her school uniform. She lives with her single mother, two siblings, and her grandmother. Her grandmother works in a support staff role at a local hospital to support her family. For the last two years, Consolata has suffered from bouts of tonsillitis, pain, infections, and fevers that make it difficult for her to concentrate on her studies. After examination, an ENT surgeon recommended that she have a tonsillectomy. If left untreated, Consolata will continue to experience pain and fevers, and could be at risk of complications. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Consolata to receive treatment. On December 3rd, she will undergo an adenotonsillectomy at AMH's care center. Now, she and her family need help raising $565 to fund her procedure and care. Consolata's grandmother shared, "I love my grandchildren, especially Consolata. It pains me to see her struggle with this condition. I kindly request assistance so that she can live a normal life and continue with her education."
