Meet Sunnary, a 55-year-old Cambodian woman who loves everything from cooking to watching her favorite Khmer dramas on TV. Sunnary used to enjoy these activities regularly, but since she developed glaucoma her vision has rapidly deteriorated, making it difficult for her to perform even her most basic daily chores. "Sunnary has blurred vision in both eyes due to glaucoma. Her eyes burn and is often painful," our medical partner Children's Surgical Center tells us. "She is unhappy that she cannot care and cook for her family as she used to, and has had to stop selling goods in the market to earn an income." She misses cooking, and most of all misses watching her favorite shows, but cannot afford the cost to treat her glaucoma. For $300, Sunnary will be able to undergo surgery to treat her glaucoma and reverse her vision loss. This operation will not only restore Sunnary's vision and ability to resume her routine, it will also eliminate the pain and burning she's experienced for so long.

Meet Naw Shee! Naw Shee is a four-month-old baby girl from Burma! Her parents farm seasonal vegetables and sell them at the local market. Naw Shee is her parents' first child and they are hopeful for her future. Her mom says, "I want her to go to school - I want my daughter to be educated. But the first thing I want is for her to be healthy." Naw Shee was born three months prematurely and has hydrocephalus, a condition caused by excess liquid in her skull which places pressure on her brain. Her medical condition makes it difficult for Naw Shee to open her eyes, eat, and lift her head. For $1200, Naw Shee's doctors will be able to place a ventriculoperitoneal shunt and drain the excess fluid from her head, allowing her to become healthy and live a full and happy life. Our medical partner, Burma Border Projects, shared, "After the surgery, Naw Shee's head will shrink in size and the pressure in her brain will gradually diminish. As she improves, her eyes will be able to open further and she will be able to look up and all around her like a normal little girl."
