Khoeun is a 62-year-old bike mechanic from Cambodia. He has six children and three grandchildren, and he enjoys listening to the radio in his free time. Five years ago, Khoeun developed a cataract in each eye, causing him blurry vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Khoeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for one hour seeking treatment. On April 9, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $398 procedure. He says, "I hope that after my surgery I will feel better and be able to see clearly so I can help my family and go back to work."

Heng is a young man from Cambodia. He has one brother and one sister and enjoys watching television and listening to music. Heng was born with severe scoliosis, which has progressed with age and has made it difficult for him to sit for long periods, causing a lot of discomfort. Surgery can help correct the position of his spine, and prevent further worsening of the condition. Heng has not been able to work because of his condition. Fortunately, surgery is scheduled for March 12. Our medical partner is requesting $1,500 to fund this procedure. He says, "I hope that after surgery, I will not have any pain and can walk normally and be able to take care of myself."

Aye is a seven-year-old girl from Burma. She is a first grade student, and she lives with her grandmother, aunt, uncle and four cousins while her parents work in Bangkok, Thailand. Aye was recently diagnosed with hydrocephalus, which has caused fluid to build up in her brain. Without immediate surgery to alleviate the intracranial pressure that the excess fluid is causing, she is at risk of developing severe, potentially fatal medical complications. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund the insertion of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt for Aye, which will drain the fluid that has accumulated in her brain. The procedure is scheduled to take place on February 28, and, once completed, will greatly improve Aye's quality of life.
