Molly is a 50-year-old wife and mother, living in Uganda. She and her husband - both of whom are small scale farmers - have five children, ranging in age from nine to twenty years. For the past year, Molly has been experiencing severe low abdominal pains and other worrying symptoms. She was diagnosed with uterine fibroids, and provided with various medications to help with her condition. Nothing has proven to be effective, so Molly will need to undergo a hysterectomy, to have her uterus removed. Molly and her husband work hard, but do not often earn enough money to cover their basic, daily expenses. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is seeking your help to fund Molly's surgery, which will take place on November 4th at Rushoroza Hospital, and cost $319. After she has recovered, Molly should be able to resume her life, free of her current symptoms. Molly says: “I hope to get treated through surgery. I can no longer do my day-to-day duties well. Once I am feeling better I want to be able to keep farming and provide for my family."

Emmanuel is a talkative and social 10-year-old and the older brother in his family of two children. Emmanuel's mother used to help people care for their homes until she fell ill a few years ago and can no longer work. Now, Emmanual's family relies on his father's income as he sells clothes and works on farms to help provide for their needs. Emmanuel was diagnosed with cryptorchidism, a condition in which one or both of the testicles remains undescended. If left untreated, Emmanuel has an increased risk of developing hernias, testicular cancer, and fertility challenges in the future. His parents took him to our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), where the doctors determined he will need to undergo surgery. On April 21st, Emmanual will undergo corrective surgery to remove the risk of any future complications. AMH is requesting $646 to cover the total cost of his procedure and care. Emmanuel’s mother says, “I waited for a long time in the hope that he will be well, but it has not gone our way. All we pray for is for him to be treated soon.”

Ren is a 70-year-old traditional Khmer cake seller from Cambodia. She has one daughter, four sons, and many grandchildren. Ren lives with her daughter who sells cakes with her as Ren's husband passed away 20 years ago. At home she likes to listen to the monks pray on the radio. Three years ago, Ren developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her photophobia and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Ren learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for five hours seeking treatment. On January 3rd, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure. Ren says, "I hope after surgery my eye can see well so I can help my daughter bake and sell cakes and take care of my grandchildren."

Jackline is a farmer and a mother of nine. Her firstborn is 38 years old her youngest is 22 years old. Jackline's husband died in the year 2000 and left her a two-room mud house for their family. She likes dancing in church during Sunday services but she no longer does so comfortably in her current condition. For four years now Jackline has been experiencing severe lower abdominal pains. She has visited health units occasionally from where she gets pain relief tablets that only help her for a short while. The pains have persisted and she has tried several medications without relief. She has been diagnosed with chronic pelvic inflammatory disease. To heal her condition, she needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $319 to fund Jackline's surgery. On January 12th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner's care center. Once recovered, Jackline will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Jackline says, “I hope and pray to be considered for treatment because my condition is worsening. I hope to resume farming once I have treatment.”
