Meet Srey Deen! This sweet 13-year-old girl from Cambodia loves listening to Korean pop music. Srey Deen was born with a rare congenital condition called a meningoencephalocele, which is caused by failure of the neural tube to close completely during fetal development. This has led to a disfigurement in Srey Deen's face, which makes her extremely self-conscious. In second grade, Srey Deen stopped attending school because she was too shy and scared. The condition also puts her at continual risk of meningitis and brain hemorrhages. The only treatment for this condition is surgery. For $350, Srey Deen will receive the right care to help repair the disfigurement in her face and reduce the risk of future medical conditions. Let's make sure Srey Deen is happy, healthy, and dancing to Korean pop on her way back to school!

Margaret is two years old. She has two older siblings and lives with her parents in Kenya. She is growing fast and her teeth have even started to emerge - an exciting event for most kids! However, Margaret has an ectopic tooth that is growing into her palate. This means that the tooth is growing in the wrong place and is causing her difficulty in feeding. This may lead to malnutrition if she is unable to eat properly. Her father works as a casual laborer and her mother is a housewife, so they have been unable to raise money for her treatment. For $750, Margaret will receive a surgery to remove the troublesome tooth. This will allow Margaret to eat well again. Let’s help Margaret live a healthy and normal life!

On Son is a 17-year-old boy from Cambodia. He recently started working on a rubber farm in the rural area where he grew up, where they use corrosive acid to harden rubber quickly. On Son accidentally burned himself while transporting the acid. He needs reconstructive surgery to replace the damaged skin with healthy skin and ensure the wound heals safely. For $225, we can fund On Son's procedure and help him move forward with his life!

Saran works in Cambodia's capital as a taxi organizer. He's only 19, but he already shoulders the heavy responsibility of sending money home to his family so they can buy medicine for his father, who has tuberculosis. Unfortunately, Saran hasn't been able to work since February because of a traffic accident that broke his arm and his leg. He sought medical attention from a traditional healer, but the treatment didn't work. Now, he needs surgery on both his arm and his leg to enable him to go back to work. The youngest of seven children, Saran says he hopes to be married soon like his siblings. He loves playing volleyball, and looks forward to having his arm and leg fixed so he can get back to living a healthy, productive life.

Srey Neang has a bilateral equinus deformity, a condition that causes tightness in her Achilles tendon and results in limited motion of her ankles. For the last three years, Srey Neang has not been able to put any weight on her heels. Impressively, she has learned to balance on her toes, but she has tremendous difficulty walking and it's hard for her to keep up with other kids. Srey Neang and her mother took a five hour bus ride to visit CSC. Srey Neang is an only child and her parents are both farmers. Her favorite subject is math, and we have high hopes that if her condition is corrected, she can continue with school and get a good job one day. It will cost $300 for CSC to provide Srey Neang with surgery to correct her condition and give her the opportunity to continue with school.

Catherine is a newborn baby who was born a few days ago to proud first-time parents in Uganda. Catherine was born with encephalocele, a rare condition that causes abnormal swelling at the back of her head. If left untreated, Catherine could grow up with developmental delays, paralysis, and other debilitating symptoms. Surgery at infancy is the only effective treatment for encephalocele. Immediately after Catherine’s birth, the delivering doctors insisted her parents take her to be seen at CURE. Catherine’s parents dutifully brought their daughter to CURE’s hospital, where surgeons believe that with treatment, there’s a good chance she can develop normally. Most people in Uganda live on less than $2 a day. The surgery Catherine needs costs $1500 – an unimaginable expense for her parents. We hope to cover the total cost of Catherine’s care at CURE and give her a chance at a normal, healthy life.

Piseth is a friendly father of four children, ages 6, 11, 14, and 18. Like many fathers around the world, Piseth’s children are his pride and joy. He dreams of them finishing school and having successful, happy lives. Piseth is having a hard time paying for their education right now, however, because of a long-standing hip injury that has left him with debilitating pain. Piseth used to work as a truck driver and farmer, but he can no longer work because he can only walk about 30 feet before it becomes unbearable. Piseth’s extended family has rallied around him to help pay for his children’s school fees while he is unable to work, but their resources are stretching thin. Piseth needs a bilateral total hip replacement. Surgeons at CSC can perform the operation for $1000, but Piseth cannot come close to being able to afford that kind of expense. We hope to raise the full amount needed for Piseth to have surgery, recover, and return to work so he can support his family and keep his kids in school.

Abush is a sweet, shy boy from a very rural area of Ethiopia. He suffers from epispadias, a deformity affecting his bladder and urine flow, and as a result has never led a normal life. Abush says he is shunned by his peers and has never had any friends. He is unable to attend school because of his condition. Abush was referred to African Mission Healthcare Foundation by his local government chief, who wrote a letter flagging his case as urgent because his family is extremely poor and cannot arrange for his medical care independently. He needed emergency care, so doctors at AMHF performed surgery on him with the knowledge that Watsi funding was coming to cover the cost. We need to raise $1,000 to cover the cost of Abush’s surgery. This procedure will be utterly life changing for him, and he looks forward to going to school, playing sports, and having friends like a normal kid after it’s complete.

Dauda is a 43-year-old man with a fractured leg. As a result of his injury, Dauda experiences excruciating pain and is unable to walk. Fortunately, doctors at Faith Alive can arrange for Dauda to have surgery on his leg. With treatment, they’re confident Dauda will be relieved of his pain and regain the ability to walk. Dauda is friendly man who occasionally volunteers at the Faith Alive hospital as a plumber. He loves dancing and singing. He says his lifelong dream is to reach out to less privileged people, especially those living with HIV/AIDS, and provide them with the skills they need to become self-reliant. Dauda was recently forced to sell some of his belongings to pay for the hospitalization of his child. Now, because of his injury, Dauda is unable to work and cannot afford to pay for his own medical treatment. Faith Alive hopes to provide Dauda with the care he needs to get healthy and go back to work.
