Meet Molly, a farmer from Uganda who grows groundnuts. She supports her family and pays tuition for her three grandchildren. During her free time, Molly enjoys singing as the lead in her community's church choir. About a year ago, Molly began to experience backaches and general weakness. She visited several clinics, but none of the medications she received alleviated her symptoms. She has been diagnosed with a uterine prolapse, a painful gynecological condition. Recently, this condition has limited her ability to work. On October 24, surgeons performed a hysterectomy. After recovery, Molly will return to her family and friends in good health. Now, she needs help to fund this $321 procedure. "I appreciate the support that Watsi is giving to people in need," she says. "I wish the donors will continue in the spirit of giving. I thank God that we have this hospital, giving us hope through the life-saving surgeries they do."

Meet James, a three-year-old boy from Haiti! “He is a friendly and intelligent boy, who is looking forward to starting preschool and learning to read,” our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, tells us. He lives in southern Haiti with his parents and one-year-old brother. “James has a condition called patent ductus arteriosus, in which a hole between two parts of the heart that normally closes by itself after a baby is born, instead remains open,” HCA explains. “As a result, blood can flow through this hole without passing through the lungs to obtain oxygen, leaving the child sickly and breathless. Without treatment, the condition can be fatal.” James has been selected to receive a $5000 surgery to correct his heart defect through Open Hearts Haiti. His family is counting on Watsi donors to raise another $1500 to fund his overseas travel and surgery prep. “It was very hard for me to leave my other baby at home to come with James, but I’m so excited that he will get the help he needs!” James’ mom says.

Meet Lydia, a 37-year-old woman from a small village in Kenya. Lydia is a single mother of three children between the ages of six and 20. Her career options became limited after she had her first child at only 17-years-old, and she now works as a laborer to provide the basic needs for her family. According to our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, Lydia has cervical cancer and “experiences severe lower abdominal discomfort. If not treated, the cancer will advance and spread to other organs.” Since Lydia works so hard to support her children, her income is not enough for the treatment she needs. Lydia confides, “My only wish is to be well, so that I can continue providing for my children.” Let’s help Lydia’s wish come true! For $885, Lydia will receive a total abdominal hysterectomy. This treatment will prevent the cancer from spreading to other organs and allow Lydia to make a full recovery. Let’s support this hard-working, single mom!

Meet Anita, a 13-year-old girl from Nepal who wants to be a teacher one day. For the past two years, Anita has experienced severe headaches, earaches, and discharge due to tympanic membrane perforation. Untreated, this condition can lead to permanent hearing loss. Anita's family cannot afford the $1,105 surgery. Her father works in India to support her, her two siblings, and her mother, but it's not enough.
