Kheng is a 65-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. She has three daughters and four grandchildren, and she enjoys watching Khmer dramas on television. Five months ago, Kheng developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurry vision and irritation. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Kheng learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On June 4, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $398 procedure. She says, "I hope after surgery I will be able to see clearly so I can recognize people's faces and attend ceremonies at the pagoda."

Caren is a baby from Kenya. She was born with an anorectal malformation, a congenital abnormality that leads to a complete or partial intestinal blockage. She needs to undergo a series of procedures to eliminate bowel dysfunction. Caren is scheduled to undergo surgery to correct her condition on May 2. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,327 to cover the total cost of Caren's procedure and care. After her recovery, Caren will no longer experience bowel dysfunction or be at risk of developing health complications in the future.

Pisal is a sixth grade student from Cambodia. He loves to study Khmer literature and mathematics, and hopes to be an accountant when he grows up. Since he was five years old, Pisal had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in his right ear to perforate. For this reason, Pisal experiences pain, discharge, itchiness, and hearing loss. He is unable to hear properly during school and cannot communicate well with others due to his lack of hearing. Pisal traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On March 5, he will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in his right ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $423 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. He says, "I hope that after my surgery, I am able to attend school and participate in my activities like normal."

Elizabeth is a woman from Kenya. She operates a small vegetable kiosk in a small urban settlement in the Kenyan coastal city of Mombasa. She has two sons. Elizabeth has been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the mandible. This is a malignant cancer which, if not treated early, has high chances of metastasis. Elizabeth is scheduled for a mandibulectomy and free flap, a long surgery that involves a fibula replacement on the excised jaw. Treatment is scheduled for April 10. Now, our medical partner is requesting $1,500 to help fund this procedure. Elizabeth says, “My prayer is to regain my health and join other cancer victors. I am hopeful that I will be okay."

Violet is a mother of six from Malawi. She lives with her husband and spends her free time farming, attending church, and chatting with friends. For three years, Violet has had a right inguinal hernia. She went to several different hospitals near her home town, none of which could help her. She has been waiting for three years to resolve this condition so she can return to caring for her family. Fortunately, on January 31, she will undergo hernia repair surgery at Nkhoma Hospital, our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $334 to fund Violet's surgery. The requested money pays for supplies, medications, and six nights of hospital stay. She is looking forward to returning to farming and would like to also start her own business when she is feeling better. She says, "I am excited because better health will help me return to my village and work harder!"

Prickson is a father of six and a grandfatherfrom Malawi. He is a farmer who truly enjoys tending to his garden and spending time with his family. Since 2010, Prickson has been experiencing pain and urinary difficulty. These symptoms are caused by an enlarged prostate, a condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia. He needs to undergo a prostate resection surgery, a procedure in which surgeons will remove part of the enlarged gland. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $733 to fund Prickson's surgery. On January 29, he will undergo prostate surgery at Nkhoma Hospital, our medical partner's care center. The requested money pays for supplies, medications, and two weeks of hospital stay. Prickson was very excited to find out he will be able to have surgery. He says, "I am very thankful for this project, please continue to help others."

Zin is a 28-year-old woman who lives with her husband and two daughters in Burma. Her husband is a teacher. Zin usually stays at home and looks after her children. In 2018, Zin went to Mandalay General Hospital and had an echocardiogram and x-ray. The doctor explained that two of her heart valves are wider than the usual sizes and that she needs to undergo surgery. Now, she is scheduled to undergo heart surgery on March 8. Her family needs help raising $1,500 to fund this procedure. Zin said, “I want to work and find money like others to support my family.”
