Meet Wildiesta. She is two-years-old, and lives with her parents, grandparents, and siblings in Haiti. “She is very close to her family, but tends to be shy and afraid of strangers (especially doctors!),” shares our medical partner Haiti Cardiac Alliance (HCA). Wildiesta was born with a heart condition called partial atrioventricular canal defect, more commonly referred to as a hole in the heart. The condition deprives her body of the oxygen it needs, and leaves Wildiesta sick and fatigued. It also slows her growth and development, and if left treated, could be fatal. For $1,500, Wildiesta will receive heart surgery that will allow her to lead a normal and healthy life. “Ever since Wildiesta was born, we have been hoping for surgery for her- we are so happy she is getting her chance!” says her mother. "Rosa is a K'ichee' speaking Mayan woman from central Guatemala," Wuqu' Kawoq (WK) tells us about this 37-year-old woman. "She lives with her young children and husband." The family farms for a living and Rosa used to weave textiles by hand for additional income. But she's got rheumatoid arthritis - which is making this difficult to do. "For two years, Rosa has had severe pain and stiffness of all of her joints when getting out of bed in the morning," WK says. "These symptoms leave her incapacitated, sometimes for 3-4 hours. She has young children at home and she is having trouble caring for them. She also has trouble keeping up with tasks around the home. She feels depressed because she's not able to do things she normally would, such as go for walks and hang out with friends." But with $425 the WK team can help. "Rosa's pain and stiffness will be resolved with medical treatment," they continue confidently. "She'll be able to wake up feeling rested and pain free in the morning. She be able to go for walks, take care of her children, and start weaving once again." Let's fund Rosa's care today!

“We love all of our children," Joseph's mother says, "and we especially wish that the position of Joseph’s foot can be corrected so that when he starts to walk he will be able to walk properly, and as he continues to grow he won’t have any mobility restrictions." Joseph is six months old and was born with a condition called clubfoot, that will prevent him from walking normally if it's not surgically treated now. "He will be bound to walk by using the lateral aspect of his right foot when he starts to walk," his doctors explain, "due to the congenital deformity of his foot. If not treated, he will most likely develop osteoarthritis of the foot at a young age." Joseph's parents are small scale farmers, they mostly grow maize (or corn). They own a small piece of land, but it doesn't yield enough to support the family on its own, so Joseph's father also works at a slaughterhouse. Joseph’s mother also sells fresh vegetables at an open market near their house. "They both work very hard so that their children can go to school and live a better life in the future," Joseph's medical team writes, "but Joseph’s parents need financial support so that their son can get the treatment which he badly needs." “We just need Denis to be able to walk properly so that when the time comes, he can walk to school and do other things without feeling that he is different from other people,” Denis’ mother says. “Denis is eleven-month-old little baby boy,” write his doctors at our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation. He was born with a unilateral club foot, and therefore is not on track to ever walk normally without surgical intervention. His hard-working family in Tanzania cannot afford the treatment he needs. If left untreated, Denis’ club foot will not only affect his gait, but likely cause early osteoarthritis of his small bones. Fortunately, for $1160, our medical partner can treat Denis’ club foot. The treatment will put him on track to grow and develop normally, and be able to walk and keep up with his peers.
