Meet Pai Lin, a 14-year-old girl in the sixth grade. She is the youngest child in her family. Pai Lin was a child when she developed an ear infection in both of her ears, causing both eardrums to rupture. She experiences ear discharge, hearing loss, and ringing in the ears. This makes it difficult for Pai Lin to hear and study. Pai Lin recently sought treatment from doctors at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC). On January 7, surgeons at CSC successfully performed a [myringoplasty](https://watsi.org/profile/ee0c1c0ba559-pai-lin) on her right ear to repair the perforated ear drum. Surgeons will now perform another myringoplasty on Pai Lin's left ear. CSC is asking for $423 to cover the costs of Pai Lin's surgery. After this surgery, Pai Lin's hearing is expected to improve.

20-year-old Tha Zin had been in poor health since 2014. She had difficulty breathing and sleeping, and she experienced nausea after every meal. She visited a hospital, where she was diagnosed with nasal polyps. Despite her use of traditional medicines, her symptoms did not improve. With time, Tha Zin's vision became blurry, and her eyes swelled. In January of 2015, Tha Zin underwent surgery for her nasal polyps. Unfortunately, one month later, her eyes began to swell again, and she lost her vision. She could only differentiate between light and darkness. For this reason, she was forced to drop out of school. In July of 2016, Tha Zin was seen by an eye doctor, who informed her that she had a neurological problem. She visited a neurosurgeon, who ordered an MRI and discovered a benign tumor in her brain. On December 14, her doctor removed the tumor from her brain. Tha Zin's family cannot afford this treatment. They have already sold all of their jewelry and land to pay for her previous treatments. Our medical partner is requesting $1,500 to fund Tha Zin's healthcare. "I am glad I get to know the details of my health problem," says Tha Zin. "I feel a lot better now."

Wai is a 45-year-old Burmese woman. She has lived in Thailand with her husband and son for many years. They moved to Thailand seeking better work opportunities after a flood destroyed the rice crops they grew in Burma. Now, Wai picks corn as a day laborer. She helps to support a grandchild who was born five months ago. Recently, however, Wai has been unable to work due to uncomfortable symptoms. She feels pain when she moves or walks, and she experiences frequent dizziness and headaches. Finally, Wai visited our medical partner’s hospital, Mae Sot General Hospital. On November 23, she will undergo a hysterectomy. This procedure should relieve her of her painful symptoms. Now, Wai needs help to fund this $1,500 treatment. “If I were to seek treatment inside Burma,” says Wai, “I would have to borrow money from a money lender, and my family would be stressed or have to sell land.” In her free time, Wai enjoys watching movies and looking after her grandchild. After recovery, she plans to continue working as day laborer to earn money for the family.
