Racheal is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. She studied up to secondary school in class two before dropping out due to financial constraints. Her husband is also a farmer, and they have two children. Racheal's eldest child is three and a half years old and in nursery school and her second child is two years old. They stay in a four-room mud house and work hard to make ends meet for their family. During her free time, she enjoys working on her small farm. Racheal is currently expecting her third child. She received antenatal care at Maziba Health Centre IV and reported to Rushoroza Hospital on 17th January. Her doctors recommend that she deliver via a caesarean section because her pregnancy is high risk and this way, doctors can ensure the safety of both mother and child. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Racheal undergo a C-Section on January 19th. This procedure will cost $214, and Racheal needs your support. Rachael says, “I am praying for a successful surgery with a positive outcome and hope to be back to my farming and life as I recover."

Mary is a jovial 52-year-old community health volunteer. Sadly, her husband has passed away and she cares for their five children on her own. Mary is one of the Community Health Volunteers at a local care center, which allows her to make a small living and meet her family's needs. For two years, Mary has been experiencing lower abdominal pain, a feeling of fullness and an enlargement of her abdomen. In September, the pain became more severe and she visited a local hospital for examination. She has been diagnosed with multiple fibroids and needs to undergo a hysterectomy, or a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Mary to receive treatment. On October 8th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at AMH's care center. Once recovered, Mary will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Now, she needs help raising $755 to fund her procedure and care. Mary shared, "I have no one to turn to for help. I would appreciate any support for this operation so that I can overcome this problem and get back to my work and also continue to care for my children."

Vanneth is a 9-year-old, third-grade student from Cambodia. He goes to school every day, likes Khmer literature, and wants to be a policeman when he grows up. Six years ago, he was burned by fire on his left foot. After the accident, his family took him to a health center for wound repair. He has since developed a left foot burn scar contracture, which makes it difficult for him to wear his left shoe due to the tightening of the skin around the burn. On February 18th, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to help him bend his toes and walk normally again. Now, he needs help to fund this $477 procedure. Vanneth shared, "I hope that my foot will look normal and that I will be able to walk correctly again."

Four-year-old Cecilia lives with her parents in Tanzania. Open cooking fires are common in Tanzania, and Cecilia’s home is no different. When she was seven months old, Cecilia crawled to the cooking fire and pulled a pot of boiling tea onto herself, burning herself badly. Her parents sought treatment at the district hospital. After the treatment, however, the ring and middle fingers of her left hand had fused, and she had a scar. One day, Cecilia's father noticed a car from our medical partner, Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT). He asked the drivers about CCBRT, and they referred him to the organization's disability hospital. At CCBRT, a surgeon examined Cecilia and said something could be done to correct her fingers and remove the scar. However, her father, a mason, cannot afford to pay for Cecilia’s treatment. Cecilia is scheduled to undergo surgery to release the contractures on her hand on March 1. Her family needs help raising $1,036 to pay for the operation, as well as one month of hospital care after surgery, food, medicine, medical supplies, and dressing changes. Cecilia’s father is optimistic that, after treatment, she will be able to attend and succeed in school. He hopes she will pursue her education to the highest level, enabling her to live a good life.
