Say hello to Stanley, a one-year-old boy from Haiti! According to our medical partner, Project Medishare, “Stanley is the first baby of the family; he is mono-parental because his father left his mother when he saw that the baby has a deformation, and now the mother is the only person fighting to help him.” Unfortunately, Stanley deals with cleft lip and palate; and because of his condition, he is unable to breastfeed or drink milk using a baby bottle. Without treatment, he will continue to have difficulties with nutrition. For $960, Stanley will receive the surgery required to mend his cleft lip and palate. After the operation, he will be able to eat and drink normally again. Let’s help Stanley live a healthy childhood!

Meet Faith, a three-year-old girl from Kenya. Faith is the youngest of nine (that’s right, nine!) children. Her parents own a small farm, which they depend on for their daily consumption. They also work small jobs around their village to provide for the basic needs of their large family. Faith has a brain tumor. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation explains, “as a result she experiences convulsions, headaches and feels weak. Without treatment, her tumor will likely be fatal.” With nine mouths to feed and provide for, Faith’s parents cannot afford the cost of the surgery she needs. They are deeply distressed because they know that they cannot pay for the treatment which will most likely save their daughter's life. Faith’s father says, “I feel so sad watching my daughter’s health deteriorate. How I hope that she will be treated as soon as possible.” We can help her father's wish come true! For $1,500, Faith will receive a craniotomy, a surgery that our doctors are optimistic will save Faith's life. Let's give Faith the chance to grow up and have a happy, healthy childhood with her eight siblings!

Dayana has just made a full recovery from cancer! She had a cancerous growth in her left leg, which required amputation. Although she has beaten cancer, without a leg, she moves slowly on crutches and is embarrassed at school. Our medical partner, Wuqu Kawoq’, writes, “Dayana's family is so happy that she's beaten her cancer. However, they would now like to see her walk independently again. Unfortunately, prosthetics are very expensive and difficult to obtain in Guatemala, and they don't have the connections or the funds to make it happen.” For $1,255, Dayana will receive a molded leg prosthetic, which will improve her mobility, her independence, and her higher self-esteem. Let’s give Dayana this prosthetic so she can focus on her education rather than the other kids teasing her!

Vumilia is a hungry and happy baby who loves to be in her mother's arms. Vumilia's mother is a single parent who works as a casual laborer in Tanzania, mainly doing farm work. Vumilia was born with a mass on her lower back. This mass is vulnerable to rupturing and leaking cerebral spinal fluid, which could put Vumilia's life in danger. “My hope is to see my daughter getting better and grow like other children so that I can work. Right now, she needs extra attention and I’m left with fewer hours to work,” her mother says. The cost of Vumilia's care is well beyond the family's reach. For $1,025, our hospital partner in Tanzania will be able to treat the mass on her back. By inserting a shunt, Vumilia will be out of danger of losing cerebral spinal fluid and contracting infections. Let's make sure Vumilia can grow up healthy.

When Rejoice was developing in the womb, her skull did not close completely. This caused a growth between her nose and forehead, known as a frontal encephalocele. The mass not only causes discomfort, but puts her at risk of serious infection. Rejoice lives with her mother and two siblings in Kenya. Her mother does her best to support the family, but since her father passed away, she relies on friends for support. Rejoice’s mother cannot afford surgery to help Rejoice, but she deeply wants her child to get healthy. “I have waited for so long for my daughter to be treated, and I look forward to her getting the help that she needs. I appreciate any support that my daughter would get towards her surgery.” For $1,500, Rejoice will receive an encephalocele repair. The procedure involves closing the gap between the skull and removing the mass that has formed. Surgery will allow Rejoice to develop normally and prevent life-threatening infection.
