Lay is a 63-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. She has two sons and two grandsons, and enjoys listening to the monks pray on the radio and taking care of her grandchildren in her free time. Three weeks ago, Lay developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her blurry vision, photophobia, and tearing. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Lay learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On July 9, doctors will perform an extra-capsular cataract extraction and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $211 procedure. She says, "I hope that I will be able to see clearly so I can help to look after my grandchildren and return to my everyday activities without any difficulty."

Sok Ra is a 14-year-old girl from Cambodia. She has one younger brother, and likes to listen to music in her free time. Since she was born, Sok Ra developed a cataract in each eye, causing her complete blindness. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Sok Ra learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On July 9, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $398 procedure. She says, "I hope that after my surgery, I will be able to see clearly and be able to attend school."

Soy is a 56-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. She has four children and four grandchildren, and she enjoys looking after her grandchildren, cooking for her family, and watching television in her free time. Seven years ago, Soy started experiencing hip pain on her left side. She cannot extend her leg normally, and also experiences pain in her neck as well. Fortunately, Soy learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. At CSC, surgeons can perform a total hip replacement to relieve Soy of her pain and allow her to walk easily. Treatment is scheduled for July 2, and Soy needs help raising $1,025 to pay for this procedure. She says, "I hope that after my operation I will be able to walk normally and return to my work without any difficulty."

Savich is a flower seller from Cambodia. She has 12 grandchildren and enjoys watching Thai television dramas in her free time. Five years ago, Savich developed a pterygium in both eyes, causing her blurry vision, tearing, and irritation. Pterygiums are non-cancerous growths of the conjunctiva, a mucous layer that lubricates the eye. The growths occur when the conjunctiva is exposed to excessive sun damage and the cells grow abnormally over the pupil. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, working, and going anywhere outside. When Savich learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for three hours seeking treatment. Savich needs a surgical procedure to remove the abnormal conjunctiva from the cornea surface and replace it with a conjunctival graft to prevent recurrence. The total cost of her procedure is $201. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care for two days. The procedure is scheduled for April 22. She says, "I hope that after my surgery, I am able to see clearly and continue selling morning glory."

Oeun is a 68-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. He has three grandchildren and enjoys listening to the radio and reading scripts from the pagoda. Five months ago, Oeun developed a cataract in each eye, causing him blurry vision and irritation. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Oeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On March 6, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $398 procedure. He says, "I hope that after my surgery, I am able to go back to work on the rice farm and go outside independently."

Srey Nuon is a teenager from Cambodia. Her favorite subjects to study in school are chemistry and math, and one day she hopes to become a chemistry teacher. Srey Nuon was born with scoliosis, which is progressing with age, making it difficult to sit in school for long periods, and causing a lot of discomfort. Surgery can help correct the position of her spine, and prevent further worsening of the condition. Fortunately, spinal surgery has been scheduled for March 11. Our medical partner needs help raising $1,500 to fund this procedure. Srey Nuon says, "I hope that after my surgery I will no longer have any pain and I will be able to take care of myself and sleep better."

Cheng is a 75-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. She likes to take care of her 12 grandchildren and enjoys going to the pagoda in her free time. Two years ago, Cheng developed entropion of the eyelids. This means that she has burred vision and irritation in her eyes. She often has pain and difficulty seeing properly. Cheng traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On April 3, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), will perform a corrective procedure to repair her eyelids. Now, Cheng needs help to raise $212 to fund this procedure. She says, "I hope that after surgery I will be able to go outside the house by myself and continue going to the pagoda."

Baguma is a mechanic from Uganda. He is married and a father of six children. For nine years, Baguma has had an inguinal hernia. This hernia causes him pain and discomfort and if not treated, the hernia may result in intestinal tissue damage and death. Fortunately, on March 13, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $249 to fund Baguma's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. He says, "After surgery I will resume with my work.’’

Sak is a rice farmer from Cambodia. She has one daughter and one grandchild. She likes to watch the news on TV and listen to monks pray on the radio. Two years ago, Sak developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision, itchiness, and a clouded lens. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Sak learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On October 17, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $211 procedure. She says, "I hope I can return to work and lead an independent life."

Sambath is a factory worker from Cambodia. He has a brother and three sisters. He likes to help his mother with her work in his free time. Eight months ago, he was in a motor vehicle accident that caused paralysis of his left arm. He has been diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury on his left side. The brachial plexus is a nerve network that transmits signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Injuries to this nerve network can result in loss of function and sensation. He is unable to move his left arm and has no sensation in his arm. Sambath traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On August 9, he will undergo a brachial plexus repair surgery. After recovery, he will be able to use his arm again and return to work.. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $637 to fund this procedure. He says, "I hope after the operation I can return to work and use my arm easily without pain."

Masiku is a farmer from Malawi. He lives with his wife, and together with their large extended family, they run a rice farm. Masiku has been unable to work due to his condition, but he still enjoys getting out to his local church and singing hymns with his family. For two years, Masiku has been experiencing pain and urinary difficulty. These symptoms are caused by an enlarged prostate, a condition called benign prostatic hyperplasia. He needs to undergo a prostate resection surgery, a procedure in which surgeons will remove part of the enlarged gland. Our medical partner, World Altering Medicine, is requesting $733 to fund Masiku's surgery. On June 7, he will undergo prostate surgery at Nkhoma Hospital, our medical partner's care center. The requested money pays for supplies, medications, and two weeks of hospital stay. Masiku and his family were overjoyed to find out his surgery would be funded. Masiku is eager to once again be able to work his fields and plant his crops. He says, "I am so happy. I did not expect this gift and I thank you!"

Vanna is a factory worker from Cambodia. She has three brothers. She is married and has one son and one daughter. She likes to tend to her vegetable garden. Vanna has strabismus in her right eye. Strabismus is a misalignment of the eye caused by injury or dysfunction in the associated nerves and muscles. She has blurred vision and photophobia. Vanna traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On June 1, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), will perform a corrective procedure to align her eyes. Now, Vanna needs help to raise $292 to fund this procedure. She says, "I hope my surgery is successful and I can return to work soon."
