“I love teaching, and I am looking forward to working with young minds and making a difference,” says 22-year-old Caroline from Kenya. Though she grew up without her parents, Caroline has just graduated from college with support from her grandmother and community. She is now certified to teach pre-school, and is actively looking for work. When Caroline was young, she burned her foot and was unable to get proper treatment. She now wears an orthopedic boot, but cannot walk well, tires easily and gets frequent blisters when walking long distances. “If contracture release surgery is not done, Caroline will not be able to walk well, and she is likely to develop an infection whenever blisters are not well treated,” explain our partners at African Mission Healthcare Foundation. For $1,125, we can fund burn contracture release surgery and comprehensive follow-up care for Caroline’s foot, which will enable her to walk well and without risk of blisters and infections. Let’s help Caroline enjoy normal, pain-free mobility so that she can teach young minds no matter how far away they may be!
Meet Nary, a 59-year-old woman from Cambodia. Nary likes cooking and listening to music. Seven weeks ago, Nary fell near her house and broke her arm. A local healer attempted to treat her near her hometown, but she is still in pain and her arm has gotten very stiff. Nary also reports that she is unable to get work done around the house because of her broken arm. For $300, Nary can receive an open reduction and internal fixation surgery. This treatment will restore function in her arm and alleviate her pain. Let’s help Nary access the care she needs to get back to cooking and living her life!
Bao is a 44-year-old woman from Burma who needs heart surgery. Bao takes care of her 67-year-old mother and her disabled younger sister. She earns a living as a farmer, but recently she has been dependent on her siblings to help support her due to her heart disease. Throughout her life, Bao has experienced fatigue and she is unable to “walk very far without experiencing heart palpitations and shortness of breath.” Because of her heart disease, Bao is unable to work to help support her family and pay for her medical bills. She “hopes to get well soon, be healthy and happy and normal.” For $2,000, we can fund Bao's cardiac surgery and help her regain a healthy and happy life!
