This is Solomon, a ten-year-old boy from Kenya. Solomon lives with his parents and twin brother in a two room rental house. At the age of one, Solomon had a left undescended testicle that was taken care of with surgery. About a month ago, Solomon's mother noticed while bathing her son that his right testicle had not descended either. "If Solomon is not treated, he may be at risk of developing inguinal hernia, testicular cancer or infertility," says our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). A low complication surgery, orchidopexy, will allow Solomon to develop normally. An incision over the inguinal canal exposing the testicle and its blood supply can be separated from surrounding tissues and repositioned into the scrotum. With this surgery, Solomon would no longer be at risk of developing a hernia, testicular cancer, or infertility. “Solomon’s father died early this year leaving the mother to take care of them with the small salary she earns from her job," AMHF explains. “Solomon’s twin brother is also suffering from the same condition. Alone, Solomon’s mother cannot pay for both her sons’ surgical care.” With $540, we can fully fund Solomon’s surgery and restore him to excellent health. Solomon’s mother shares, “Having the twins -who require a lot of attention - I am not able to even work overtime and earn some extra money. Solomon is bright and a bit silent. All I want for his is mere success in all he does. I hope he gets treated.” With a shy smile, Solomon says, “I want to get well.”
