Maria Ulario is a hardworking woman from Guatemala. She lives with her four children in rural Guatemala. Maria Ulario underwent a pap smear test with the nurses in our medical partner's women's health program, and the results of her pap came back positive. Though Maria Ulario does not currently have symptoms, she still needs to undergo a colposcopy, which is a guided biopsy procedure that removes affected areas of the cervix. A colposcopy is often curative for cancerous or precancerous lesions of the cervix, and it is therefore is the best way to prevent the spread of cervical cancer. With $218 in funding, Maria Ulario will consult with a specialist who will perform the colposcopy. Even if cancer or pre-cancer is found in her biopsy results, this procedure is often curative. She will be able to continue to work and sustain her family. The procedure is scheduled for September 7. She says, "I hope this is something treatable. I want to remain healthy for the sake of my children."

Natumanya is a young student from Uganda. He has four siblings. For four years, Natumanya has had an inguinal hernia. If not treated, the hernia may result in intestinal tissue damage due to twisting and blocking. Fortunately, on September 11, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $219 to fund Natumanya's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably. His mother says, “I will be glad when my son is relieved of this condition under your support because I don’t have money for his treatment.”

Makanga is a farmer from Uganda. He is married and a father of 13 children. For three years, Makanga has had a right inguinal hernia. The hernia causes him pain and is increasing in size. This is affecting his ability to work on the farm. Fortunately, on August 8, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $249 to fund Makanga's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. He says, "After surgery I will be able to resume working in my farm with my wife."
