Furtu is an infant from Ethiopia. She loves to play with her mother. Furtu was born with an anorectal malformation, a congenital abnormality that leads to a complete or partial intestinal blockage. She needs to undergo a series of procedures to eliminate bowel dysfunction. Furtu is scheduled to undergo surgery to correct her condition on December 4. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of Furtu's procedure and care. After her recovery, Furtu will no longer experience bowel dysfunction or be at risk of developing health complications in the future. Her father says, "We came here after being informed by a relative that we might receive help. It is our hope that we can get the surgery for our baby and to see our child healthy.”

Japheth is a pre-schooler from Kenya. He loves attending church. Japheth is the second born in a family of three children. He aspires to be a pastor. His father works as a gardener, while his mother is a housewife. Japheth has clubfoot of his right foot. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. Fortunately, Japheth traveled to visit our medical partner's care center, AIC Cure International Hospital. There, surgeons will perform clubfoot repair surgery on April 23. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,224 to fund Japheth's clubfoot repair. After treatment, he will be able to walk easily. “I am appealing to Watsi to help my son get surgery. My joy would be to see my son walking and playing normally like other children," Japheth’s father says.

Eh is a one-year-old boy from Burma. He lives with his mother, father, and grandmother. His parents work as farmers on a villager’s farm, and receive a share of the crop as payment. When he was one month old, Eh’s mother noticed his left eye was tearing up more than usual. At ten months old, both his pupils became white. Eh suffers from severe discomfort from bright lights and when the wind blows into his eye. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund lens replacement surgery for Eh. On March 23, doctors will perform a lens replacement, during which they will remove Eh's natural lenses and replace them with an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $1,500 procedure. "I want him to become a medic as there are many patients in my village and I want him to return home to help them when he is grow up," says his mother.

Presley is a 13-month-old baby boy from Haiti. He lives with his mother, father, and older sister. His father is a mechanic and his mother works in a preschool. Presley has recently learned to walk and likes running and playing. Presley was born with pulmonic stenosis, a cardiac condition in which one of the heart's four valves is too small. As a result, his heart has to work much harder to circulate the blood, leading to heart failure and leaving Presley sick and weak. Seeking treatment, Presley visited our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance. Although the majority of his heart surgery is being subsidized by the organization, Have a Heart Cayman, Presley is still in need of $1,500 to cover medications, exams, and heart surgery prep. Presley is scheduled to undergo heart surgery on June 16, and his mother says how she is "very hopeful that after the surgery Presley will be completely healthy and normal!"

Catalina is a seven-month-old girl from Guatemala. Her family cannot afford to give her a nutritious diet filled with protein, calories, and nutrients. She has been diagnosed with acute malnutrition. She has little energy to grow, and her immune system is weak and vulnerable to illness. She is also at risk of chronic disease and delayed development. Fortunately, Catalina began malnutrition treatment on November 24, 2016. Catalina loves to play with stuffed animals. She lives with her family in a one-room adobe house with a tin roof. Her father works as a day laborer, harvesting blackberries and corn. Her mother works at home, cooking, cleaning, and weaving traditional Mayan textiles. Even though they want the best for their daughter, they cannot afford this $512 treatment. While malnutrition can have devastating effects, it is also very treatable. Growth monitoring, micronutrients, and food supplementation will help Catalina recover. She will gain weight and grow taller to catch up with other children her age, and her immune system will grow stronger. Community health workers will teach her mother about creating a nutrient-rich diet from limited resources. Treatment will give Catalina a chance to grow healthy and strong.

Neang is a 53-year-old rice farmer with four sons, three daughters, and eleven grandchildren. She likes to watch Khmer dramas on TV and go to the pagoda. One year ago, Neang developed a pterygium growth in each eye, causing her blurred vision, irritation, and burning. It is difficult for her to see things clearly and do any work. When Neang learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On October 20, CSC surgeons removed the pterygium in each eye. Now, Neang needs help to pay for this $148 procedure. After recovery, she should be able to see clearly. "I hope that I look better and feel comfortable," she says, "so that I can easily watch TV and do any work."

Panha is a three-year-old boy with two brothers and one sister. He likes to stay at home and play with his toys. Panha was born with small masses in his left underarm. Over time, the masses gradually increased in size. They were also itchy and uncomfortable. When Panha's family learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), they traveled for six hours to seek treatment. On December 2, CSC surgeons removed the masses from Panha's underarm. After recovery, he will feel comfortable again. CSC is requesting $224 to fund this procedure. "I hope that my son will no longer feel itchiness and will be healthier," says Panha's mother.

Try is a 70-year-old moto taxi driver from Cambodia. He is married with three sons, four daughters, and nine grandchildren. He enjoys watching Khmer dramas on TV. One year ago, Try developed a cataract in each eye. This causes him blurred vision and cloudy lenses. He can't see clearly or do his work well. For $292, Try will undergo cataract surgery in both eyes. After the surgeries in each eye, Try will be able to see clearly again.
