Meet Eva, an intelligent and caring 27-year-old woman from Kenya who works as a domestic assistant. The only daughter in her family of 6, Eva finished high school but could not continue with her education due to her family’s financial status. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, reports that “her parents work as casual labors on local farms to help make ends meet, but they depend on Eva’s wages as a domestic assistant to support their family.”
Eva is currently experiencing a great deal of discomfort due to a Hyperthyroid Goiter. According to AMHF, in addition to painful swelling from the mass, Eva also has “difficulty swallowing, a persistent feeling of hunger and difficulty sleeping. If surgery is not done, Eva will continue to have difficulty eating which could lead to malnutrition.”
Though her family cannot afford the surgery to treat her condition, Eva remains steadfast in her dedication to her family and her work: “I work hard so that I can help my parents and younger siblings who are still in school. I know that one day I will be able to fulfill my dream of becoming a teacher,” says Eva.
For $825, we can fund a Sub-total Thyroidectomy surgery, which will remove her damaged gland, stop her persistent hunger and allow her to sleep. With our help, Eva can pursue her dreams of teaching and support her family, pain free!
