Chech is a 22-year-old farmer who has two sisters and three brothers. She likes to do housework and help her family on the farm. When she was a baby, Chech developed an ear infection. The infection spread to both ears and perforated the tympanic membrane in each. She experiences recurring ear discharge, pain, and hearing loss. Her condition makes her unhappy. Fortunately, Chech learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC) from a relative. She traveled for six hours by taxi to reach CSC for treatment. On October 19, 2016, surgeons performed a myringoplasty in each ear to repair the perforated tympanic membrane and stop the ear discharge and pain. Over time, her hearing will improve. Now, her family needs help to fund this $831 procedure. Chech says, "I hope for the ear discharge to stop and to have good hearing."

20-year-old Chin is a factory worker from Cambodia. She is the youngest of four siblings, and her favorite pastimes are reading books and cleaning. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC) shares, "When Chin was ten years old, she began having recurrent ear discharge and hearing loss from her right ear." Despite receiving treatment in the past, she still experiences pain, discharge, and hearing loss. "When I have ear discharge it feels painful and there is a bad smell," shares Chin. "This disrupts my life and makes it difficult to communicate with my friends." After hearing about CSC from a fellow villager who received treatment, Chin traveled three hours to seek help from our medical partner. For $399 Chin will receive a myringoplasty to stop the discharge and regain her hearing. "I hope after treatment, the ear discharge stops and I can have good hearing," Chin shares. "I want to study English."

Meet Loishooki, a 17-year-old student from Tanzania. He is the second born of six children and lives with his family on their small-scale maize and bean farm. Loishooki loves to study Swahili and math in school, and play soccer with his classmates and siblings in his free time. “I dream of becoming a university professor later on in the future," he tells our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). Loishooki told AMHF that he hopes he did well on his exams last month so that his dream can be realized. First, however, he will need treatment for the condition he was born with called genu valgus, which causes his knees to knock into one another when he walks. Although Loishooki is active and studious, it is difficult for him to walk easily due to the condition genu valgus, which causes his knees to knock together when he walks. Loishooki has had this condition since birth. "Loishooki’s bones started getting weak when he was seven years old," AMHF shares. "That leads to the inward bending of his right leg causing the knees to knock each other when walking." Loishooki's parents sought treatment for their son for two years but could not find anything that helped him. They told AMHF that, "despite his condition, Loishooki resumed school when he was strong enough to walk again." The family is eager for Loishooki to receive the surgery he needs. For $940, Loishooki will undergo an operation to have the bones in his leg surgically reset so that they are properly aligned. This procedure will ensure that Loishooki can walk, run, and move with ease and without the trouble of having his legs hit one another.
