“My dream is to save enough money to start a grocery so I can educate my children. I hope Watsi will assist me so I can get well and achieve my dream,” says Nancy, filled with hope.
Say hello to Nancy, a 49-year-old wife and mother of six from Kenya. Nancy is a housewife, occasionally helping her neighbors for a few coins, and her husband is a casual laborer who repairs shoes. As a result of financial strain, some of Nancy’s children have had to stop their schooling.
Three years ago, Nancy began to experience increased and irregular abdominal bleeding and pain, the result of uterine fibroids. This heavy bleeding led to anemia, accompanied by dizziness and weakness, for which she has been treated at various hospitals. The bleeding and pain has also made it difficult for Nancy to do her usual casual work or to even associate with other women. If not treated, the bleeding could lead to even more severe anemia and further incapacitation.
We're raising $790 for a total abdominal hysterectomy for Nancy. “We expect after this treatment, Nancy will recover fully," explains our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation. "She will be relieved of the pain, bleeding, and anemia. Nancy’s social life will also be improved and she will be able to work again."
