Naw is a 39-year-old woman from Burma. She lives in the dormitory together with other students in one of the migrant schools in Tak Province, Thailand. She applied to be a teacher at the school for this school year. In March 2025, Naw started to experience frequent urination and low back pain, causing her to struggle to sit for long periods. She also feels stressed about both her condition and the cost of treatment. She has been diagnosed with multiple myomas and was advised to undergo a total abdominal hysterectomy, the surgical removal of her uterus and cervix. If left untreated, Naw's symptoms will continue to worsen and put her at risk for further health complications in the future. Fortunately, Naw is scheduled to undergo her hysterectomy on June 6th. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of her procedure and care. Once recovered, she should be able to live more comfortably. Naw expressed her gratitude, saying, “Thank you to the donors and BCMF for helping to cover my surgery costs. I plan to be a teacher after I am fully recovered, as teaching is my favorite thing to do.”

Mary is a farmer and the single mother of three children who are now grown. She lives in her parents’ home in Central Kenya. Mary farms on a small piece of land given to her by her parents, growing food crops for home use. She has no source of income and relies on her kids for upkeep and support. However, all her children do not have stable jobs. Her parents are elderly and don’t work either, so she is worried about how to fund the care she needs. Mary first started experiencing pain in her stomach at the beginning of October. Mary's pain has gradually increased and her stomach began swelling making her uncomfortable. She went to a health facility in Central Kenya for a check-up and review. She has been diagnosed with cancer of the ovaries. She needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, can help. AMH is requesting $1,260 to fund Mary's surgery. On November 24th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner's care center. Once recovered, Mary will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Mary says, "I feel uncomfortable with a swollen stomach and I am in pain. I know this surgery will go a long way to help heal the issue and make me well again.”

Twel Tar is a two-year-old girl who lives with her parents in northern Thailand. Their family is originally from across the border in Burma, but moved to Thailand for a better job opportunities. Her parents are both factory workers. Twel Tar was recently diagnosed with hydrocephalus, which has caused fluid to build up in her brain. Without immediate surgery to alleviate the intracranial pressure that the excess fluid is causing, she is at risk of developing severe, potentially fatal medical complications. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund the insertion of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt for Twel Tar, which will drain the fluid that has accumulated in her brain. The procedure is scheduled to take place on January 30th, and, once completed, will greatly improve Twel Tar's quality of life. “When my daughter recovers from surgery, I want to send her to school like other children. I want her to become an educated woman,” shared Twel Tar’s mother as she hoped for a better future for her daughter.

Victor is a three-year-old boy and the youngest in a family of four children. Victor’s father is the sole provider for the family through his job at a tobacco factory. Victor was diagnosed with bilateral Genu Valgus, which means that his legs have bowed inwards forming knocked knees. This condition is typically caused by an excessive accumulation of fluoride in the bones, which often stems from contaminated drinking water. As a result, walking is difficult and painful for him. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Victor to receive treatment. On September 14th, Victor will undergo corrective surgery at AMH's care center and now, AMH is requesting $880 to fund Victor's procedure and care. Treatment will hopefully restore Victor's mobility, allowing him to participate in a variety of activities and greatly decreasing his risk of future complications. Victor’s mother shared, "we have been informed that surgery will correct his legs but the cost is too high for us to afford."

Juma is a 15-year-old boy and the youngest of nine children born to his mother. He is an intelligent boy who completed primary school with good marks, but unfortunately, his father couldn't afford to send him to secondary school. Juma stays home and helps his mother work on the farm where they grow maize, vegetables, and cassava. Juma's dream is to become a teacher. Since childhood, Juma has had a right inguinal hernia that causes him pain. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Juma receive treatment. On May 4th, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at AMH's care center. Now, AMH is requesting $566 to fund Juma's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Juma shared, "please help me with this condition because as I grow older the pain keeps becoming worse which is a sign it's getting worse."

Sammuel is an 11-year-old boy from Ethiopia. He is very outgoing and happy, and loves cycling and playing football. Sammuel is in grade five and his favorite subject is mathematics. He attends a government-run school, where his school uniform and meals at schools are supported. Sammuel's mom is a single mom, and works to support herself and her son by washing clothes in their community. Sammuel's dad is a guard in a church and earns limited income, so he cannot support Sammuel and his mom consistently. Since his birth, Sammuel has had a right inguinal hernia. This hernia causes him pain and weakness in his lower abdominal area. He will need to have surgery in order to allow him to be more active and without pain. Fortunately, on March 9th, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner's care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $512 to fund Sammuel's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently and resume more of his favorite hobbies. His mom shared, “Sammuel is my only child and I struggled a lot to raise him. Now I don’t need any other life but to raise him well and to educate him. I always dream of him getting older and becoming somebody.”

Liana is a six-year-old girl and the youngest in a family of three children. She's in grade one and likes to play a lot with friends. Liana's mother hawks food for a living, while her father works in construction sites. On March 13th, as Liana played with her friends, she fell and sustained an open fracture on her left hand. She was brought to a local hospital and an x-ray was performed to confirm the diagnosis. If left untreated, Liana will continue to experience pain and she may have complications. Liana visited the hospital accompanied by her mother, who was worried about the cost of the surgery. The doctor suggested the possibility of Watsi support. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), can help. On March 18th, Liana will undergo a fracture repair procedure called an open reduction and internal fixation. This procedure will allow Liana to use her hand again and she will no longer be in pain. Now, AMH is requesting $1,049 to fund this procedure. Liana's mother shared, “we are not sleeping because of Liana's pain. I pray that we may be helped so that she can be relieved of pain, be well again to continue her normal life, and continue with her studies.”

Nyirarugero is a 61-year-old woman from Uganda. She is a married mother of ten children, but shared with us that seven have since passed away. She is a small scale farmer along with her husband and during her free time, she enjoys tending to her family. Almost 30 years ago, Nyirarugero began experiencing troubling symptoms, including anterior neck swelling and breathing problems. She has missed several surgical appointment due to financial constraints. She was diagnosed with a multinodular goiter and needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $293 to fund Nyirarugero's treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on April 6th at AMH's care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. Nyirarugero shared, “I had lost hope of being treated. However, I seek treatment so that I may get back to farming and be able to take good care of my family again.”
