Faith lives with her younger sibling and parents in Kenya. Faith was born without an anal opening, had a colostomy performed at birth, and today lacks the ability to control her bowels. If left untreated, Faith will continue passing stool through the colostomy, which is easily susceptible to infections and may cause her to be self conscious as she grows.
Faith's family is very concerned about Faith, especially because they have been unable to raise funds for her surgery. Faith’s father supports the family financially as a casual laborer and her mother is a housewife. They also have a small piece of land, which they farm for domestic consumption. “We wish to see our daughter living a healthy and normal life. We fear that if Faith is not treated soon, she will become more aware of her condition and this will affect her self-esteem,” her parents say.
For $1,500, Faith can have an anorectoplasty colostomy closure. “We expect that after the surgery, Faith will be able to pass stools normally,” our medical partners write. Let’s pull together and help Faith out.
