Dorcus is a five-year-old who lives in Tanzania. Dorcus has Hirschsprung's disease, a condition that affects the large intestine and makes it difficult for Dorcus to pass stool normally. Dorcus does not spend time with other children because she is self-conscious of her condition. Dorcus is an orphan who was taken in by a loving family in her community. Her guardians share that Dorcus “was doing well in school and liked to play with other children, but now she isolates herself.” Her adoptive parents have three children of their own, and although they pay for her school fees, they cannot afford the cost of Dorcus’ medical bills. He remained at home until September, when two cysts appeared and he began experiencing fevers. Khu Nay then traveled to Thailand to receive further treatment. X-rays revealed his left femur had a displaced fracture and he has been an inpatient ever since, waiting for the treatment he needs to live a normal life. Khu Nay is nervous about his future and only wishes to be a normal kid who can walk without assistance and go to school. For $1,500, he can receive the needed bone graft to heal his femur.
