Vannak is a 67-year-old retired Buddhist archbishop. He and his wife have two daughters, three sons, and seven grandchildren. They live with two of their grandchildren who work as laborers. He spends his free time helping monks take care of the community pagoda and, at home, he likes to listen to the monks pray on the radio. Two years ago, Vannak developed a cataract in his left eye causing him blurry vision and sensitivity to light. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Vannak learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On September 8th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure. Vannak shared, "I hope I can see clearly again after surgery. I can go to the pagoda by myself, and can read and write well."

Mafeeta is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. He is married with four children. Three years ago, Mafeeta developed a swelling on his right cheek that has been growing in size. He experiences pain and discomfort. Mafeeta traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On July 10, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, Mafeeta needs help to raise $187 to fund this procedure. Mafeeta says, “I hope to be relieved of discomfort, pain, and disfigurement after surgery and I will continue with cultivation.”

Thean is a grandfather from Cambodia. He is a rice farmer. He has two daughters, five sons, and eight grandchildren. He likes to listen to the news on the radio. Two years ago, Thean developed a pterygium in both eyes, causing him irritation, tearing, and blurred vision. Pterygiums are non-cancerous growths of the conjunctiva, a mucous layer that lubricates the eye. The growths occur when the conjunctiva is exposed to excessive sun damage and the cells grow abnormally over the pupil. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, working, and going anywhere outside. When Thean learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. Thean needs a surgical procedure to remove the abnormal conjunctiva from the cornea surface and replace it with a conjunctival graft to prevent recurrence. The total cost of his procedure is $201. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care for two days. The procedure is scheduled for July 4. He says, "I hope after surgery my vision is improved and I can go outside by myself again."

Tumubwine is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. She is a widow with five children. Fifteen years ago, Tumubwine began to experience troubling symptoms, including difficulty swallowing and breathing. She was diagnosed with a goiter, an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Tumubwine receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on May 8 at our medical partner's care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $240, and she and her family need help raising money. Tumubwine says, “I hope to have an improved quality of life after surgery and I continue with cultivation.”

Korn is a vegetable farmer from Cambodia. She has a daughter. She likes to cook for her family and spend time with her grandchildren. In February 2017, she developed a painful mass and swelling around her left ankle. She experiences pain and swelling. Korn traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On May 4, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), will remove the mass. Now, Korn needs help to raise $220 to fund this procedure. She says, "I hope I can move and walk without pain again."

Saem is a rice farmer from Cambodia. Five months ago, Saem developed a cataract in each eye, causing her blurred vision, photophobia, and sometimes tearing. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside. When Saem learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for one hour seeking treatment. On May 3, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification surgery and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $398 procedure. She says, "I hope I can see clearly so I can to do my work and I can go outside by myself."
