Cesar is a 50-year-old married father of four who lives in Guatemala's rural highlands. His and his wife's joint sales of small rings provides a source of family income. For years, Cesar worked as an agricultural laborer in the local countryside. Unfortunately, Cesar suffered an accident that resulted in the need for an amputation of his leg at the hip. For many years now, Cesar has struggled to walk, go to work, and complete daily tasks. Our medical partner, Wuqu' Kawoq, is requesting $1,166 to cover the cost of a prosthetic leg for Cesar. The start of Cesar's fitting and molding sessions is scheduled for July 7. Receiving this prosthesis will positively impact Cesar's life, hopefully allowing him to walk more easily, comfortably, and independently. “I hope that by recovering my leg I can do something with my life. With our business we only earn pennies. Hopefully with the new leg I will be able to do something new, something unique,” expresses Cesar.

Keo Mony is a 38-year-old soldier who is married with one son and four daughters. He likes to watch TV, read magazines, and go fishing in his free time. Keo Mony has been diagnosed with bilateral hip avascular necrosis (AVN), which causes his bone tissue to break down. He experiences pain in both of his hips. In December, Keo Mony traveled for two hours with his wife to reach our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC). Surgeons successfully performed a total hip replacement on his right side. His right side feels better, but he still experiences pain on his left side. Therefore, surgeons at CSC will perform a total hip replacement on Keo Mony's left side to relieve him of this pain. His surgery is scheduled for February 9. Keo Mony's family cannot afford to pay for this treatment, so CSC is requesting $781 in funding.

Mue Soe is only 21-years-old, but she has had heart problems since she was a baby. When Mue Soe was born, her mother took her to a clinic in Burma but she could not afford the testing required for a full diagnosis. As Mue Soe grew up, she was always very tired and weak and her heart palpitations prevented her from playing with other children at school. When Mue Soe was 13, she made it to a clinic in Thailand where she was diagnosed with cardiac disease and told she needed surgery. Her family was nowhere near being able to afford the procedure. Since then, Mue Soe has been in and out of health clinics due to her chronic fatigue and weakness.
