Meet Mugizi, a 27-year-old father who lives with his wife and two children in Uganda. Two years ago, Mugizi began to have painful swellings in his abdominal area. He went to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with bilateral inguinal hernias, protrusions of intestinal tissue through the abdominal wall. He was advised to undergo surgery. Without treatment, Mugizi was at risk of developing a strangulated hernia, which happens when the protruding tissue loses blood circulation. This can lead to further health complications and even death. Fortunately, Mugizi underwent a hernia repair surgery on November 30. During surgery, doctors surgically repositioned the protruded intestinal tissue and repaired the tear in his abdominal wall. After a few weeks of recovery, Mugizi will be able to return home free of pain. Mugizi and his wife work as farmers. They need help to raise $249 for his surgery. After recovery, Mugizi plans to work hard to take care of his family.

This little guy is Biskut, an eight-month-old boy from Ethiopia. "Biskut was born with an open anus and he suffered from bowel obstruction as a newborn," explains our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). "He survived after the colostomy he received when he was a week old, and since that time he has recovered from both the obstruction and the surgery itself." Due to his anorectal malformation, Biskut has been passing stool through his colostomy bag ever since the first procedure. Because colostomy bags only work as temporary solutions, this has caused some health complications for Biskut and has made life difficult for his parents, both of whom are young subsistence farmers. For $1,500, AMHF will surgically create a new anus for Biskut, allowing him to pass stool normally. This procedure will make life easier on Biskut and his parents. "Biskut is happy little one, apart from his colostomy problem," AMHF shares. "Right now his parents have no specific future dream except that their child gets well."

“We want Kasosi to have the same opportunity like the rest of our children and for her not to feel neglected or left behind. She will be more independent if she can walk properly,” says Kasosi’s mother. Kasosi is a shy eight-year-old girl from Tanzania. Her parents and two older siblings love her very much and hope she will be able to walk the long distance to school. Kasosi has unilateral club foot, a deformity on her left foot. Our medical partner African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF) shares that if untreated, “she will be at risk of developing early osteoarthritis of the foot.” Her parents are small scale parents and strive to make sure their children get what they need, but cannot cover all the medical costs. With $1,160 Kasosi will be able to receive clubfoot surgery. AMHF says that with this treatment, “Kasosi will be able to walk properly, allowing her to continue with her education without problems.” Let’s work together and help Kasosi out!
