Abdirahim is a child from Ethiopia. Abdirahim is a cute boy who loves to play with others. He loves to play football with other children in the village. He also loves to watch animation movies. Abdirahim’s father is retired while his mother was a business woman who supported the family until six months ago when she passed away. Abdirahim has five siblings. Abdirahim underwent a colostomy, in which the end of the colon is brought through an opening in the abdominal wall. This surgery is often performed to bypass bowel malformations, but colostomies are usually temporary and may call for closure. In Abdirahim's case, his colostomy requires closure in order to restore bowel function and prevent future complications. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $961 to cover the cost of a colostomy closure for Abdirahim. The surgery is scheduled to take place on September 09 and, once completed, will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. His dad said “After the operation I see a bright future for our child. I believe his trouble will come to end. And for us the families, it is a big relief.”

Sophea is a 21-year-old construction worker from Cambodia. He has three siblings, and enjoys listening to music, watching television, and helping his family around the house. In February 2019, Sophea was involved in a morotcycle accident where he was hospitalized for ten days and now suffers from hemiparesis. He has been diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury on his left side. The brachial plexus is a nerve network that transmits signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Injuries to this nerve network can result in loss of function and sensation. He has difficulty controlling his shoulder and arm, and has limited range of motion in his elbow. Sophea traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On August 12, he will undergo a brachial plexus repair surgery. After recovery, Surgery will allow him to use his arm and shoulder again with control and full range of motion. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $637 to fund this procedure. He says, "I hope that my surgery will be successful and I can return to my work and other daily activities."

Rebecca is a woman from Kenya. She is a mother of one daughter. Rebecca has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Without treatment, the cancer may spread to other organs. A mastectomy, a surgery to remove breast tissue, has been suggested to rid her body of breast cancer and to prevent the cancer from metastasizing. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $816 to cover the cost of a mastectomy for Rebecca. The procedure is scheduled to take place on July 10. After treatment, Rebecca will hopefully return to a cancer-free life. Rebecca says, “I pray to win over this condition and be there for my 11-year-old daughter."

Careen is a baby from Tanzania. She has been diagnosed with genu varus. Her leg is bowed outward. This condition is typically caused by an excessive accumulation of fluoride in the bones, which often stems from contaminated drinking water. As a result, she has difficulty walking. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $940 to fund corrective surgery for Careen. The procedure is scheduled to take place on June 21. Treatment will hopefully restore Careen's mobility, allow her to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease her risk of future complications. Careen’s mother says, “We tried to use medication to help correct her legs but nothing worked, we could afford the surgery cost we are here asking for help please help our daughter.”
